and Miss Clara Booth singing In the quartette selection Joshua Rockham delivered the open lag address and was followed by Miss Deseret McCleery who told of our national na-tional benefactors Miss Rosannah Cannon gave a recitation provoking much laughter Miss Rachel Farley gave a piano solo and Miss Mamie Jeffries read an orig inal poem The class prophecy by Mss Bessie Brainard was a humorous composition which predicted with more or less accuracy ac-curacy the exact future of each member mem-ber of the class Roy Rich represented the high school In giving an address of welcome and Miss Grace Harris made the response Mr Pike and Miss France Peebles gave a duet and were encored The Swans Song was recited by Miss Verna Bowman Miss Gertie Mayer contributed a ino solo and Miss Ethel Harcombe lead a meritorious original poem Charley Pike scored a great success In the vocal solo Goodbye Sweet Dye The valedictory was delivered by Miss Bessie Child and Mr Gideon of the board of education presented the diplomas diplo-mas He called especial attention to the work of Miss Brainard who during the past seven years has attended the public school without being once tardy absent or sick I The exercises closed with a selection hy the quartette Red Cross Society A meeting of ladles was held yesterday yester-day under the auspices of the Wo mans Relief Corps to form a society for relief work The organization took the name of the Emergency Red Cross society AH loyal people are eligible and arc invited to join Steps will be taken at once to collect funds to carry on relief work among soldiers at the front and such of their families as may need help Mrs M A Breeden called the meeting to order and Mrs William Driver presided pre-sided The officers elected were Mrs William Driver president Mrs Tyree first vice president Mrs J E Bagley second vice president Mrs Jennie E Nelson secretary Mrs J G Paine treasurer The officers also constitute the executive committee Soliciting committee Mrs Fljgare chairman work committee Mrs Toponce chairman chair-man special committee Mrs Voorhees chairman The executive committee will meet with Mrs Driver at 330 p m today The License Ordinance A meeting of the merchants and professional pro-fessional men was held at the Weber club last night to hear the report of the committee appointed tc oppose the license ordinance Attorneys Evans Horn advised the meeting that the ordinance or-dinance could be successfully resisted and a resolution was passed declaring it to be the sense of the meeting that the ordinance was obnoxious and would be opposed A committee of ten was appointed to notify merchants and professional pro-fessional men to meet with the council tonight and protest further against the ordinance The
