Show Experienmce with a Dear A sheep herder related to us the other day a slight acquaintance he made with a bear while herding sheep up a branch of Spanish Fork canyon a short time ago which runs about as follows I was on Sunday morning and as everything was still and quiet I concluded to take a stroll up the canyon and break the monotony of camp life by perusing I the contents of a book t This place selected was above a ledge I of rock which faced a level patch of thick underbrush down in the canyon I As I sat down to read I noticed a small I trail leading up around the ledge of rock evidently made by wild animals Just a I commenced to get interested in the book the dogs which had followed i me began to prick up their ears and show signs of alarm Anxious to discover I the cause of their uneasiness I got up I and walked down to the ledge of rock intending to look over but just as I reached the ledge I was met by a huge I black bear coming up the trail We w r only about five feet apart when we discovered I dis-covered each other and both come to a sudden stop The meeting wa very unexpected un-expected to me and evidently to bruin albo for we both stood spellbound and eyed each other for at least two minutes I all the dogs but one having run off toward the camp While contemplating towar Vhie conteplatng I whether t throw the book and run the dog which had the courage to stay made for bruin and he turned and fled down I through the underbrush followed by the barkins canine That was the last I saw of Mr Bear and I must admit that I I was very much pleased with the way I our acquaintance endedPayson Globe |
