| Show ad FOR A NEW GAS WELL GREAT SALT LAKE COMPAXY MAKES A CONTRACT JInliis of Hie American Natural Ctx Company leached South Temple Street Ycsterrtu Gnf Will Be Delivered De-livered txt 3Iaiiv Street Toulglit With fine weather and plenty of material ma-terial the American Natural Gas company com-pany yesterday reached South Temple street with its line of piping from th gas fields and work will continue to be pushed with all practicable speed Tonight the gas will reach Main street For the supplying of gas there are two companies now Incorporated American Natural Gas company and I the Great Salt Lake City Natural Gas and Fuel company The latter company com-pany yesterday signed a contract for the sinking of another well the exact location of which has not yet been determined de-termined but this will be settled within with-in a few days I Is safe to say however how-ever that the spot selected for operations opera-tions will be north of the ground owned by the AmerIcan Natural Gas company and on the old French tract t The contract referred to has been awarded to Messrs J S McIntosh and A 1 Anderson of this city The first named gentleman inJhe sinking of gas and oil wells hag an experience of thirtyfive years He has sunk wells in the states of Pennsylvania New York Michigan Indiana West Virginia Vir-ginia Ohio Colorado Wyoming Utah and he operated largely In the West Indies When he arrived in Salt Lake I city about nine years ago he at once commenced to agitate the advisability I of sinking for gas lathe vicinity of I Salt Lake city Having thoroughly 1 examined the field he Contributed < an I exhaustive article to a local contemporary I contem-porary on the geological question of the subject expressing it a his unqualified 1 un-qualified opinion that this section had exactly the same stratification that he I had operated in in the states and territories ter-ritories already mentioned and that I both ga and oil could be found here He laid the matter before several local wealthy men but received very little encouragement It was impossible to raise enough means tos bring on the necessary machinerya commence operations Several ofthe parties who declined to assist him with means have now a well defined kick on hand I especially since ga has been found in abundance and the for pipes conveying convey-ing the same laid into the city They I are now unable to get in on bedrock bed-rock To get in at all they must purchase pur-chase shares at the market price I I The terms of the contract with I Messrs Mcintosh and Anderson are very simple but quite elastic They I have merely been authorized to sink a well at so much per foot and go down until they find gas The deepest weB in the neighborhood where operations opera-tions xvlll be commenced upon this new one is 1010 feet The contractors are sanguine of success Both members mem-bers of the firm have had great experience ex-perience Mr Anderson having sunk wells all over Utah The Great Salt Lake City Natural Gas and Fuel company com-pany is in dead earnest and i is to be hoped that success will attend its efforth Mr Slmondl is president of the company and Mr B Ward vice president The latter is a practical well driver having sunk gas dzver ore ninetyfive wells in Pennsylvania and fiftytwo wells in Bothwell Ontario Province Canada He will be 3 first class man to superintend oneraiiins In the neighborhood of 175 men are being given employment by the Amori can Natural Gas company in Its operations opera-tions and the great force Is fairly making mak-ing things hum As has already been stated the mains will reach Main street on South Temple street this evening having been connected yy to the Grand Pacific hotel last night Teats of the connections were made to First North yesterday and the leaky joints were few The connection with the gas house of the Salt Lake and I Ogden Gas and Electric Light company com-pany will also be made this afternoon |
