claims recommending an allowance of S23CO each to exPatrolmen and Sergeants Wire Rhodes and Heath was read The three had claimed that they were entitled en-titled to pay as sergeants under the ruling of the supreme court by which they were reinstated Chief Pratt it will be remembered reduced them to I the ranks The claims committee thought the demand de-mand vas just but immediate objection to its allowance was raised Callister I vas the first to protest He declared I that the chief had the power to reduce the men to the ranks and cited an Instance stance where Chief Devine had reduced 4 t re-duced a captain i Chairman Howe of I r the fire and police committee thought 4 thf amounts were too small to stand a I 1 suit over Robertson objected to this i statement He declared that the question 1 f bmts tion of the size of the bills should I not cut any figure and asked for an opinion I opin-ion from Assistant City Attorney SteWart SteW-art who was present Mr Stewart replied re-plied that in his opinion the claims were enforcable by law Callister then asked that further action be postponed for one week and it was so ordered r Must Give Better Service The municipal laws committee recommended rec-ommended the following resolution relative rel-ative to the West Side Rapid Transit company which was unanimously I adopted Resolved That the West Side Rapid 1 Transit company its successors and assigns as-signs be and they are hereby notified to at once repair and place in good condition their line of track commencing I com-mencing at the corner of Second South and First West streets and running to the limits of Salt Lake City place upon the Fame cars with modern conveniences con-veniences and appliances and run said cars regularly every hour each way for a period of eighteen hours each day and be it further Resolved That the said company its successors and assigns be and they I are hereby notified that i they neglector I neglect-or refuse to comply at once with the requirements of the above resolution I that this coumd will take proceedings to revoke their franchise A resolution giving the Salt Lake City I Street railway the right of way over the streets it asked for in arecent communication commu-nication was offered by the municipal laws committee I went over for one I week under the rules I Wanted Report On Kelsey Buckle suggested that it would be in order to hear a report from the special committee appointed last week to look into the accounts of City Engineer Kelsey Kel-sey in connection with the surveys looking to an increased water the motion Then Robertson and Wallace both of whom are members of the committee objected to the shortness of the time allowed al-lowed Callister offered to withdraw the motion but Buckle refused to allow al-low him to do so Robertson solved the problem by offering an amendment making the report due in two weeks The amendment was carried everybody voting for it except Buckle Robertsons ordinance providing for the closing of stores banking houses and other specified places of business on Sunday was neat killed by Allen who moved that it be tabled Robertson Robert-son was the only member who voted against the motion aginst moton The Buckle ordinance making it unlawful un-lawful to disturb survey stakes and monumtnts was taken up on its second reading and passed The measure provides
