Show 11EJ INSTEAD OF CONCERT BBUUOSTEINDBIi ENGAGEMENT AT OGDEN DIDNT COME OFF Companys Manager Wanted Money Which the local People Declined to Put Tip Hence the Trouble There was no concert by the Bruno Steindel company In the tabernacle last night though there was a very lively argument between representatives representa-tives of the Choral union and the manager man-ager of the company out of hearing of the audience There was a goodsized crowd of people who waited until 915 for the concert to begin A that time Mr Pike came out and read a brief address explaining the position of the Choral union in the controversy and announcing that the money would be refunded J Allen Vhyte manager of the company wanted also to make a speech but was forbidden to first by Mr Pike and later by a police officer Mr Pike said that the present representative repre-sentative of the company demanded 240 which the Choral union was notable not-able to pay and which they were under no legal or moral obligation to pay The representative of the company was Insisting on an old agreement which the company had violated time and again and which the original manager no longer expected them to keep The first arrangement was that the company should not play In Logan or Provo but later this was modified The Choral union agreed to this providing the prices were kept up to the Ogden figure Later they played in those two towns with the two previous attractions attrac-tions of the series and prices were putdown put-down to 25 cents while in Ogden the prices were 75 cents and a I This made It impossible for the Choral union people to come out even but they had gone ahead under the assurance assur-ance from Director Collins that he would make things all right But instead in-stead of Collins another man had come The audience left very much disappointed dis-appointed and at the exit stood Mr J Allen Vhyte telling his side of the story to the multitude Later Mr Whyte came to The Herald office and stated his position He claimed there I was money due from the two previous concerts He said that there was t275 due but that he had offered to knock oft 100 rather than have the audience disappointed This they were in a fairway fair-way to get together when Mr Pike tendered his personal check in part payment This he refused to accept unless it was certified to or endorsed and thereupon Mr Pike broke off the negotiations He said Mr Pike had borrowed the copy of the contract from a brother of Mr Collins and the Steindel company did not have the document Mr Pike denied absolutely all of Whytes statements The money will be refunded at Cannons bookstore today to-day |
