Show I DAMAGES TO LIVESTOCK A correspondent at Echo inquires if there was a law passed at the recent session of the state legislature making railway companies fully liable for stock killed by trains on their roads Two bills were introduced covering cases of this character H B lOS provided pro-vided for the erection and maintenance of cattle guards and fences along the tracks and making the companies responsible re-sponsible for all livestock killed by reason rea-son of negligence in this particular H B 15 among other things fixed the responsibility re-sponsibility of railroad companies for damages done to livestock Both these measures were defeated Senator A J Evans introduced S B 6 defining the civil jurisdiction of justices jus-tices of the peace It authorizes them to try cases involving damages to personal per-sonal property injured by railway I trains This bill became a law I According to the code of Utah every railroad company shall be liable for damages caused by its neglect to make and maintain good and sufficient crossings cross-ings for travel and for all damages sustained by the owner of any livestock killed or injured by the engineer or cars of said company |
