Show BANQUET TO T ° SENIORS University Freshmen Entertain the Class of 99 TALKED OF COLLEGE DAYS ENJOYABLE EVENT CLOSES THE COLLEGE YEAR 4 Seniors Told What They Did When They Were Freshmen and Freshmen Fresh-men Announce What They Will Do Wen They Become S niors Held at Knutsford Ninetynine was the guest of Nineteen Nine-teen hundred and two at a very pleas ant university of Utah banquet at the Knutsford last evening Twentyfour members of the two classes with several sev-eral gets were present and the banquet ban-quet was one of the most enjoyable events of the entire college yea now closing The table was spread In the red room adjoining the main dining hal of the Knutsford I was very prettily decked with bunches of peonies and wild flowers flow-ers from the canyon whose brilliant coloring harmonized charmingly with the soft light and rich tinting of the room The guests gathered In an adjoining joining parlor and thnce proceeded to the banquet room where the following menu was discussed consomme Olives Planked Shad Cucumbers Shoestring Potatoes Fillet of Beef Mushroom New Potatoes St Julien Punch Fried Spring Chicken New Asparagus Tomatoes and Lettuce Salad Strawberry Ice Crcanr Cake Fruits Lemonade Coffee With the coffee came the toasts Nelson Nel-son Dickerman presiding in the capacity capa-city of toastmaster First he called M R Porter president of the graduating gradu-ating class to tell of the virtues and successes of the Class of 99 Mr Porter responded very happily speaking speak-ing of the trials and tribulations the triumphs and defeats of the departing class He spoke of their high ambitions i ambi-tions and lofty aspirations when they I entered college as freshmen and how as the years went by some saw these I hopes and ambitions realized while others were not so successful But all he said cama more and more to fee the great the inestimable benefits which their college course and their associations with their fellow students and their professors brought them I I The Profs was the subject allotted to G S Gibbs 02 In a facetious vein he considered I gibe and jest and anecdote following so close one upon another that the banqueters were kept convulsed with laughter S F Rigby 99 told about what befell be-fell him in the days When I was a Freshman He reviewed the events of that happiest of all the years of college col-lege life in half humorous half sober style shlelss Clarissa M Ellerbecks theme When I am Senior and in was am a very clever verse she looked forward with prophetic eye and explained how she would lord It over the juniors and keep a friendly eye out for the freshmen of that delectable time to come tme The trials of college journalism were all unfolded by Miss Grace Nelson in responding to the toast The Chronicle I Chroni-cle She described that bright little weekly a a many headed dragon huge mouthed always greedy for copy I not so particular as to quality satisfied with even the productions of minature verdant freshmen As editorinchief I of the paper she had had plenty of opportunities op-portunities to experience all the trials and all the joys of actual journalism and she told many droll and laughable I anecdotes that had come to her notice during her control of its fortunes Mrs Rebecca E Little who bears the distinction of being at once a member of the board of university regents and one of the graduating class spoke of Our Alma Mater She treated of the more earnest and sober phases of college col-lege life Its intellectual advantages and ennobling influences and at the conclusion of her address a silent toast was drunk to the university by all the banqueters The Eccentricities of the members of the two classes fell to the lot of Miss Lucille Hewett 02 and in wltt style she hit off all their faults and folhipg and Idlosyncracies Her epigrams at the expense of her mates bore no sting however and peals of laughter followed each shaft of humor and well aimed thrust Then thore were impromptu toasts to the president Dr J T Kingsbury the freshmen class and the departing seniors and this ended the programme These were the banqueter Class of 99 lr Little Misses Grace and Esther Nelson Messes Porter Lewis Rigley and Cannon Class of 0 Misses Hewett Hvde Cahoon Clark Moffet Wallace a ler beck and Harker Messrs Rugs Gibbs Peters Dickerman Barker Hatfleld and Groo Instructors Reynolds and Edmunds Misses Davis Evans and Yearsley Mr Prt hard S |
