Show GRIFFO AND ERNST A Lively Scrap at AVllllamslmrsr X Y Lust Night BROOKLYN June 6 Young Griffo of Australia and Billy Ernst the Brooklyn Brook-lyn light weight boxer met tonight at the Unique theatre Vllllamsburg in a twelve round bout at catch weights Several Sev-eral of the bouts were uneventful During the second round Ernst landed a heavy left swing on Grlffos face while the latter was trying to break away There were some exchanges in the third with Grifto having the better of them Billy got in a blow on the head when Griffo was on the ropes in his own corner in the fifth Ernst had decidedly the better bet-ter of the ninth round a he uppercut I Griffo twice on the face whiie he was duekinir and he also rlnivvi in I few trnnd left hand body blows which winded = the I Australian In the eleventh Ernst jabbed his left in Griffos face when the latter was dodging a right lead and made a creditable showing Griffo landed three times in succession on the face with his left and Ernst placed for the body in the twelfth Griffo was by far the cleverer clever-er but the referee declared the bout a draw a it was agreed that if both men were on their feet at the end of the fight a draw was to b tho result Sammy Campbell Manleys Coon and Jim McVey of Brooklyn fought eight rounds at catch weights to a draw Billy Moore of St Louis and o Hopkins of New York both colored fought at 130 pounds The referee stopped the bout in I the third round when Moore was practically tically knocked out |
