Show STILL THE AMORINES 1 > A Denver Paper Discusses the Secant Ruction THE ORGAN OF THE A P A r Unfounded Statements Concerning the Catholic Church in Utah The Rocky Mountain American Claims Thero Are Secret Catholic Organizations Organiza-tions in Salt take and More Catholics 4p Cath-olics Than Protestants in Offlco While the A P As or Amorines have a paper of theIr own here the Critic it seems that they also have an organ in Denver The latter journal is called the Rocky Mountain American and in its last issue received here yesterday the recent ruction in Salt Lake is exhaustively exhaustive-ly treated The article reads as follows IThe A P A is rapidly advancing in all sections of the country There are numerous councils in every city in the United States and there are state organizations or-ganizations in most of the states Not less 2000000 names are enrolled and the number is increasing with wonderful wonder-ful rapidity People are getting their I eyes open They begin to ealizo that the churfch and state organization which has enabled onesixth of the population in the cities of America to control three fourths of the offices is a power to be combated most vigorously and they begin be-gin to realize that the work of salvation can best be wrought within the ranks of theAPA Romanists for the first time in history find a stubborn mysterious resistless force in opposition to their plans of political politi-cal conquest in America and tho fat wineguzzling priests hold the mystic letters H A P A in greater and more abhorrent fear than Belshazzar did the chirographic display on the walls of the palace Great sensations rise Now and then some member of the order joshes a reporter with a wonderful story of alleged al-leged secret work and names the best men in his city as members of the A P A This is followed by columns of print in the dailies which always advertises the A P A and adds greatly to its growth In other cases some knave in the pay of Jesuits or of unscrupulous newsmongers seeks admission to the order for the purpose of making public that which he may see or hear Aways the baso perjurer who does this is too cowardly to make more than one visit among the honorable men he wishes to injure and the result is that he fails to remember that which he did eeend hear and is therefore compelled to draw almost wholly upon his imagination for matter for publication Papers in Salt Lake city have recently been filled with A P A news most of which has been news indeed to members of the order With that singular unanimity which characterizes the L secular press when dealing with Romes F opponents the order is roundly denounced de-nounced by the Tribune and THE HERALD ou general principles the editors of those sheeta meanwhile resting in utter ignorance of all facts connected with the APA It is claimed by these papers that there is no need of antagonism to Romish interests in-terests in Utah and the assertion is made that there is but one papist in office there who attends church regularly The people of Salt Lake city should not be deceived For many years the principal princi-pal church in Utah has been that of the latterday Saints Its members transformed trans-formed the wilderness into a garden and Jo made that region desirable to immigrants t of all creeds I tfi i There has sometimes been strife between I be-tween Mormon and Gentile There is ft1 good advice to give to both Now that Romanism has a sure foothold in Utah all other denominations should be wide awake or they will be made to pay well for sleeping Already the Romanists control the columns of tho Salt Lake dailies and they will soon control the politics of the territory sweeping both Ii the Mormons and the protestants aside I The Tribune is the organ of the Liberals Lib-erals in Salt Lake city The Liberals are composed of the gentiles No newspaper news-paper in America has ever dealt so unfairly un-fairly with an organization of citizens of whose interests and purposes it is wholly ignorant 3he HERALD inolining to Mormonism is much more decent in its strictures and is more fair in its methods It gives the accused a bearing and right well have Messrs Jackson and Dennis defended the order they represent dft Citizens of Salt Lake will do well to f consider facts The Tribune claims there is but one Catholic in office in Utah We can give the Tribune some information Leaving Mormonism entirely out of the question an investigation will prove that 1 There are more members of the Catholic church in office or on public pay in Salt Lake city than of all other religious religi-ous denominations 2 There are mere secret societies in Salt Lake city composed wholly of Catholics and utterly inaccessible to Protestants Pro-testants than there are composed wholly of Protestants and utterly inaccessible to Catholics 3 The only armed and drilled church organization in Salt Lake city is composed wholly of Catholics j One thing is certain The efforts of the 1 Romish cohorts to disband the A P A ia Utah will ignominiously fail and the f inconsistency of the Tribune in denouncing 4 denounc-ing the A P A because of its principles f while it upholds Alderman Moran and j his Catholic sympathizers in demanding that all A P A members be swept from the pay rolls of the city because they unite in defending American institutions will only redound to credit of the order and the discomfiture of th3 sheet which ir j thus curries favor with Rome7 f The American evidently thinks the p affair a very important one for it also discusses the matter at considerable length editorially saying among other things A peculiarity of the tempest now raging at Salt Lake is this A Catholic councilman Moran insists that all members of the A P A be dropped from the city pay roll because they are so uncharitable as to prefer Protestants > to Catholics in public offices and a committee of aldermen to weed out the A P A employees was appointed ap-pointed by the board on motion of Moran On the same principle Moran is unfit for office because he prefers Catholics to Protestants in office All roads lead to Rome however and while Protestants are napping the Babylonian harlot is getting s get-ting in her work |
