Show THIS PUBLIC PRINTING BILL The OnlyJMeasuro of importance Before the House Yesterday WASHINGTON Sept 13In the House Talbert of South Carolina introduced a resolution directing the currency committee com-mittee to immediately report the bill of McLanrin of South Carolina for the issue of 125000000 in treasury notes for the relief of the people The resolution was received with laughter and objections objec-tions and the house went into committee commit-tee of the whole on the public printing billThe The bill deals with the entire question of the printing and distributing public documents and substitutes for the old plan a system which aims at economy by the appointment of a bureau through ii which all documents are to be sent outS out-S Hepburn of Iowa objected to the section permitting the public printer io sell duplicate du-plicate stereotype or electrotype plates and Chairman Richardson expressed his nrillinfness to modify the section Two hours of general debate on the bill followed and then it was considered by sections under the five minute rule A wrangle ensued over the section of 4 the bill providing for the advertisement for paper proposals in one Democrat and one Republican newspaper in Boston New York Philadelphia Baltimore Washington Pittsburg Cincinnati Chicago Chi-cago and St Louis Hayes of Iowa made an unsuccessful endeavor to secure an amendment including includ-ing the newspaper of all cities of over 250000 inhabitants Caruth made a plea for the Louisville papers and Mercer of Nevada did a liko duty for Omaha Much strength was developed in favor of both cities and Richardson concluded to adjourn as the only means of defeating the amendment Accordingly on his motion at 435 the House adjourned |
