Show THE SCHOOL EXHIBIT A Very Creditable Showing of the Educational Educa-tional Work of the Territory Utahs educational exhibit concerning which very little ha been said reflects great credit upon the schools and also those who contributed so much labor and time to prepare it Prof Millspangh and his assistants have worked faithfully t prepare the exhibit so credit may be reflected re-flected upon the city and territory and it is certain the school work sent will lose i nothing in comparison with that of the I other commonwealths I Several counties and towns have contributed I con-tributed by far the greater portion of the work of the former there are Cache Box Elder Beaver Davis Salt Lake Tooele Juab Utah San Pete Summit Of the latter Logan Salt Lake city Provo I Payson Ogden alone of the larger towns sent nothing the superintendent of schools there being too busy to pay any attention to the work I I The exhibit represents nearly all of the school work ordinarily done in the common com-mon branches particularly in kindergarten kinder-garten drawing clay modeling and relief re-lief works In some cases these were drawn in water colors and were very handsome Summit county frm the Park City schools sent a beautiful collection of ores labeled and mounted on cardboard Their exhibit also contained a number of bottles mounted in the same manner showing the lixiyation process of reducing reduc-ing ores from inoipiency to culmination Some of the higher institutions of learning learn-ing including the Latterday Saints college col-lege Brigham Young academy of Provo Agricultural college of Logan and the University of Utah constituted excellent exhibit The latter quota consisted entirely en-tirely of exterior photographic views of the building The Agricultural college sent specimens of sbop work mechanical drawings and sewing all of which evinced the greatest care in detail The Salt Lake city schools were represented repre-sented in three classes of workfrom the casses primary grammor and high school departments de-partments the latter being the only high school represented in the Utah exhibit Perhaps the most noteworthy department depart-ment of the citys exhibit was that of drawing and color work by the children In these branches the result of two years work has produced most remarkable results re-sults and will attract as much attention as any portion of the school exhibit at the big fair The high school work aside from some carefully executed mechanical me-chanical drawings consisted mainly of I essay abstracts of written work and translations from the classics original demonstrations in mathematics and mounted specimens in botany and zoology I zool-ogy The latter are very handsomely I done and much to be admired by naturalists natur-alists Altogether whire not large in amount nor representing other than the usual work of the schools it is believed the exhibit ex-hibit will reflect credit Upon the territory The space assigned to the Utah schools at Chicago is very limited amounting to less than 400 square feet floor space and for this reason it was necessary to exclude proval very much of the work presented for ap I I Mr D R Augsberg supervisor of supervsor drawing in the city schools goes to I I Chicago to install this part of the exhibit which will be security sufficient that the display will be artistic in its arrangement arrange-ment and reflect all the credit to which it i entitled I |
