Show TO PREVENT CHOLERA Resolutions Passed to Adopt Stringent Measures NEW YORK April Dissatisfaction in the national council of the state board of health resulted this morning a separate meeting of the representatives of the states in the Mississippi Valley who believe be-lieve it impossible to handle the matter of cholera inspection under a uniform system for the whole country At todays meeting fifteen states were represented covering a territory from Minnesota to Louisiana from Iowato eastearn Pennsylvania Strong resolutions were passed especially espec-ially in view of the reappearance of cholera in Russia asking the surgeon general of the marine hospital service to make a thorough investigation as to the state of affairs in Russia and it the facts justify it to ask the President to prohibit immigration from that country in the whole or in part The marine hospital is also asked to maintain severe inspection of the trade and traffic and keepit up year after year as long as necessary and t institute in-stitute a system of immigrant inspection similar to that of 1892 Before the regular evening session o the international conference convened members of the committee of the Mississippi Missis-sippi valley decided to lay the resolutions they adopted before the conference The regular session of the international conference con-ference followed Immediately afterwards and Dr Eeilly read his much talked of report in which he touched on what Chicago had done and was doing in the way of cleaning herself up for the fair Brief reports from other representatives were heard after which Dr Watson read a series of extracts from a lengthy report made by the commission appointed by the conference last year and which was tabled Dr Eeilly read the resolutions of the sanitary san-itary council of the Mississippi valley passed for itself in the absence of other delegates this morning The communication communi-cation was laid on the table and the conference con-ference proceeded to elect officers for the cpming year as follows President Dr C A Lindsay of Connecticut Dr C O Probst of Ohio secretary Dr H B Baker of Alabama treasurer Dr Irving president A Watson of New Hampshire first vice |
