from the anteroom thia reek show that all the orders were fairly busy and fully the ordinary amount of business was done Notwithstanding the nanj counter attractions all this week the lodge meetings were well attended and a good deal of interest manifested I Masonic Tae subordinate lodges met and had Very interesting work The question of I building anew Masonic temple is again being agitated and a meeting of all the I Masons in the city will be held in the I Masonic hall this evening to consider the matter The site was purchased about a I year ago at the corner of Fourth Southland South-land State streets and it is expected I that a building company will be I organized to carry out the project The I order is becoming very strong here and I is in great need of a permanent home for I themselves A special meeting of Mount Moriah lodge was held on Monday evening at I which the second degree was conferred on one brother Argenta lodge met in regular session on Tuesday evening There was no degree work but a large amount of routine I business was transacted The stated convention of Utah chapter was held on Wednesday evening and the I commandery met in regular order on Thursday evening At the former there I was no special work but at the latter the order of the temple was conferred on one brother Lynds chapter O E S met in regular Cession last evening and worked the ordinary routine business I O O TT Tho committee having in hand the arrangements for the anniversary celebration cele-bration are working hard and will meet at the Grand Secretarys office on Monday evening to hand in their reports The 4 committee on bylaws will also meet on Tuesday evening at the office of the secretary sec-retary Jordan lodge met on Monday evening The attendance was large and the third degree was conferred on one candidate by the degree staff Oquirrh encampment met on Tuesday evening and transacted the regular routine rou-tine business Rid ley and Enterprise lodges met on Wednesday evening There was no degree de-gree work but applications to join were received and placed in the hands of the proper committees In both cases the attendance at-tendance vas good and several visiting brethren were present and gave very interesting talks Utah lodge No1 met on Thursday evening and worked in the third degree conferring that rank of two candidates Fidelity and Salt Lake lodges met last evening in the former the first degree I was conferred on one brother and the latter worked in the third degree Knights of Pytlilas There was nothing of interest occurring In this order beyond the usual lodge meetings On Monday evening Calanthe met in regular session There was no I degree work and routine business occupied oc-cupied the time W B Holland and O H Martin were elected as representatives to the Grand lodge On Tuesday evening Myrtle lodge had its regular meeting and enjoyed a pleasant pleas-ant fraternal time On Wednesday the regular conclave of Monitor lodge was held and four applicants appli-cants were initiated into the mysteries of the first rank The Rocky Mountain lodge had a good I meeting on Thursday evening at which r the pages rank was conferred on three candidates and several applications to join were received and will be acted on inane in-ane course The ladies of Ivy Temple Pythian Sisters Sis-ters were so successful with their last social so-cial entertainment that they are contemplating contem-plating giving a repetition of it in the near future A O u w Another month has gone and there is no death assessment on the members of the order in the new jurisdiction Three I months and no assessment Good very good On Monday evening Temple lodge met and elected J J Sullivan M B Pendle ton and W E Boden to membership The junior workman degree was conferred con-ferred on C D Campbell and other important im-portant business transacted Salt Lake Valley lodge met for the first time in their new hall in the Union block on Thursday evening The members are much pleased with their new quarters which are quite elegant and commodious The workman deres was conferred on Edgar Howe and realtors of interest to the lodge discussed Caledonian Club The clansmen of the Caledonian club met as usual in the Temple of Honor hall on Tuesday evening to transact business Two applicants were admitted to membership mem-bership Business had not proceeded far when to the surprise of all present the ladies of the auxiliary made application for admittance Business was suspended and the deputation entered Two young ladies led the procession carrying the banner of the club Mr James Anderson playing the Scottish pipes the entire membership of the ladies auxiliary following fol-lowing dressed with plaids of their respective re-spective Tartans and Scotch bonnets They made known their business and were formally AOCepted by the club The ladies had a splendid repast prepared which they served and when all present had given it ample justice the remaining part of the evening was spent by the excellent ex-cellent renderings of songs readings and recitations reflecting great credit upon the performers Sons of St George The Sons of St George held their last social for the season on Wednesday night April to an excellent house considering consider-ing the many other attractions The worthy president William Gill Mills filled the chair with his usual ability making the social appear in its most attractive at-tractive form and opening the entertainment entertain-ment with a telling speech inviting all to make themselves at home and enjoy the feast of reason and flow of soul provided for them by the Sir Knights and their friends and promising them one of the best programmes he ever had the pleasure of providing The first part of the programme began with an organ solo by Miss Win berg On the Waves JJ rendered with much taste and feeling The next to favor the company was the old time favorite Miss Maude Pratt one of the sweet singers who has always kindly responded to the call of the lodge and helped much towards the success of the socials all through the season She sang in a beautiful and effective voice When the Snow Begins to Fall JJ which called for an encore to which she kindly responded by rendering that grand piece Marguerite Dramatic reading by the worthy secretary secre-tary William M Brown Kentucky Bellerl Cornet solo Miss May Margetts who Tins favored the lodge before with her talent tal-ent and is one of the rising musicians of Salt Laic She tan handle the lustra j 7ld ant and fill it to lU fullest responded with Last Night The most pleassHt and agreeable part of the everdcgs entertainment next took L tJ I place being the presentation to the lodge by Mrs Bay Robinson of a beautiful silk i banner most tastefully decorated with the white and redrosesof old England painted by her own hand Theworthy president W Gill Millspresented it to the lodge on her behalf calling upon the worthy secretary sec-retary William M Brown to read a letter let-ter from her full of love and patriotic feelings towards the Trafalgar lodge I wishing them all the success and prosperity prosper-ity this world could give them I Mrs Edmonds next favored the lodge with a recitation entitled the Last Hymn delivered in a most pathetic style Miss Daisy Newman another of the Sons of St George favorites who has kindly given her services to the lodge before sang very effectively and in a sweet voice Perhaps accompanied on the organ by Miss Crissie Lawsonclosing the first part of the programme giving the audience an intermission of five mInutes i utes for the exchange of feeling and expression ex-pression of regards and a good old shake of hands The worthy president W Gill Mills opened the second part of the programme in another of his genial speeches introducing intro-ducing to the audience Mr David Cand land one of the first pioneers of the territory ter-ritory who did so much toward advancing advanc-ing tho progress of music and literary entertainments for Utah in its first incipiency in-cipiency by his able writings and literary worksto which he replied in amost telling and patriotic speechfull of kindly feelings towards all the brotherhood of sir knigts entering into the spirit of the entertainment en-tertainment which reminded him of the i time when he had joined in former times expressing his feelings by proving that no nation under the sun had given more truth and progress to the world than Old I England Love to all mankind being her motto It gave him great pleasure to see so many pleasant faces gathered together One of the greatest advances in civilization civiliza-tion that he noticed being the sounds of music in our homes and on the streets of our city giving the impression that the I brotherhood were met together for humanity hu-manity he could feel it from the bottom of his heart and had nothing but patriotic patri-otic feelings towards America which could never be eraced and wishing the the lodge every success Miss Winberg favored the lodge with an organ solo entitled the Marvel Waltz JJ Messrs Edmonds and Owen gave the Larboard Watch in splendid voice which called for an encore to which Miss Lillie Edmunds sang c Oh Happy Day accompanying herself on the organ William Gill Mills then road a poem of his own composition Nothing New Under the Sun Miss Crissie Lawson another of the favorites of the lodge who has done so much towards the success of all their socials so-cials favored them with her rich contralto con-tralto voice by singing that beautiful song Let Me Dream Again calling another encore to which she kindly responded re-sponded by giving Genevive The worthy president W Gill Mills favored the audience once more by giving solo on the violin The Mocking Birdl closing the social by returning a vote of thanks to all those who had so kindly Tendered thoir services both by music recitations and reading and inviting them to come and favor the lodge once more when it reconvenes the socials and giving a cordial invitation to the entertainment enter-tainment on St Georges Day which will be held Monday April 24 The entertainment closed by the entire audience singing the closing ode to the tune of Auld Lang Syne concluding one of the most agreeable and entertaining entertain-ing socials of the season |
