| Show POLICE COURT Frank Davis and the OConnor Gang Bound Over In the police court yesterday Frank Davis was examined on the charge ot burglarizing the residence of Elbert M Sanders and stealing a lot of carpenters tools The prosecution made out a strong case against the defendant and the court held him to await the action of the grand Jury fixing his bond at 250 in default ol which Davis was committed to jail R B Van Valkenburg the swindling printer charged with obtaining money under false pretenses tho defendant entered a plea of guilty and was fined 35 ad costs amounting in all to 3G5k Charles OConnor William Heaves and William OConnor the trio of youthful r crooks who were recently arrested for j < breaking into W J Harveys residence and stealing a job lot of household furniture furni-ture were held to await the action of the grand jury Three plain drunks were assessed the usual amounts W L Crump tho carpenter who made a murderous assault on Charles Smith on Tuesday night will have a hearing today THE POLICE RECORD Walter Porchor a painter who spends a rood portion of his time behind the bars j was arrested by Officer Yocum yesterday for stealing ten pounds of coffee from G W Davis store R M Corey and T T l Larrimer were arrested by Officers Tohnson and Carey for righting Yesterday afternoon Officer Bruce Johnson John-son nabbed two tough looking fellows who had several pairs of new pants in their possession pos-session There is little doubt but that the goods were stolen and they will probably be claimed today The men gave their names as George Jackson and Charles Wallace I John Burnes and another fellow were i arrested yesterday for robbing a drunken man named Tom Conners I THE SLELY CASE I The memory of the frightful shooting scrape which occurred at North Salt Lake last summer and which came so I near resulting in the death of three men was vividly recalled yesterday by tho arrest of the chief actor in the affair A man named Hall it will be remembered was superintending the digging dig-ging of a ditch near W J Seeleys place when the latter came out and abused Hall so violently that a fight occurred Seeley then appealed to his gun and Hall realizing 1 realiz-ing iris dangerous position rushed into his tent caught up his rifle and commenced I retreating Seeley at once opened fire and brought down an innocent spectator named Morris inflicting a serious wound He kept on firing at Hall and the latter finally returned it He proved to be the better marksman of the two as he shot Seeley in the chest at the first fire This ended the fight and Hall fame to this city and gave himself up After an investigation be was discharged For a time Seeley and Morris lingered between life and death but finally j j they commenced to improve and now both t are out of dancer The police have been watching the aff ur closely aud yesterday I Officers Johnson and Disrgett arrests Seeley on the charge of assault with intent I to murder The prisoner will probably have a hearing before Judge Gee today FOR DISTUKHIKG THE PEACE In Commissioner Greenmans court yesterday yes-terday morning John Burnes pleaded guilty to the charge of disturbing the peace and was fined S SCHYSS IS HELD In the case of A Schass and wife charged with forging the name of Presley Dennj to a draft for 5300 Judge Gee yesterday yes-terday decided to hold Schass to await the action of the grand jury his wife being discharged The defendant gave bonds in the sum of 1500 |
