| Show TransMississippi Congress OMAHA Neb Oct 21he debate the free coinage of silver which was on the rojjraiurno for this mornings congress was deferred until some later session and ExGovernor Hubbord of Texas ad dressed the delegates on a deep water har her on tbe gulf At the afternoon session there was a a lengthy discussion as to the manner of disposing of the report of tho committee on resolutions It was finally decided to read them and adopt them section by SMC tion Those adopted are on the land grant naturalization and gulf aeep harbor maters I mat-ers The first named sets forth that the I utersst of mining creates and adds to the i venlth of this country nearly 100000000 annually of gold and silver alone a product I pro-duct whose scarcity means the depreciation of thu values of the farms homes and real I property of the country as well as to the I wheat cotton and corn produced by our toiling millions and whose abundance I i means increased comfort and prosperity That there are millions of acres of gold I and silver bearing mineral lands of the I i treat within the limits of the grants to the I Pacific railroads and in imminent danger 1 of becoming the property ot these roams and earnestly asking of Congress such I I legislation as will protect and foster mining min-ing interests and forever prevent mines I and mineral lands bearing gold silver I copper or lead from becoming the property I of these corporotions under their grants I I is recommended that the convention conventon authorize the president to appoint a committee com-mittee of seven members which shall take steps to secure such united and efficient I action as wi 1 save thee mines and mineral lands to the people The resolution on naturalization says our I laws in this respect should be mado astringent I a-stringent and only United States courts I should exercise the power of naturalization I Another resolution sets forth that tus necessities of the transMisissippi state demand an ocean outlet on the northeast I coast of the Gulf of Mexico urges the secretary of war to complete the jetties II now under construction at Galveston as speedily as possible and that western trunk line railroaus bo requested to extend their railway facilities to Galveston as rapidly as the work of the jetties pro j ceeds Another resolution declares it tho sense j of this congress that the immigration laws I should be so amended that only immigrants I who both desire and are fitted for American J I citizenship shall be permitted to land on shores and that the laws our should be more stringent Upon tho silver question there were i threo reports all of which wero laid over I for future discussion The convention attempted to fix the placa of the next meeting but after the names of Salt Lake and Helena were presented the matter was laid on the table j j Colonel Grcaham spoke on the ddop I water harbor question and the benefits I which would accrue from the Gslveston I harbor He expressed the belief that in a j year there will be twenty feet of water I there Another resolution was adopted urging Congress to provide for further improvement improve-ment of Galveston harbor and congratulating congratulat-ing the people of Valesco having seventeen seven-teen and a half feet of water in their harbor har-bor Adjourned until tomorrow |
