Show AMUSEMENTS THE FACE IX MOONLIGHT Neither Mr Mantell nor his principal supporters Misses Charlotte Behern and Kathleen Kerrigan and Mr W H Stuart lost any of the deserved popularity popular-ity they gained the evening before because be-cause of their acting in The Face in the Moonlight The play dealing with the exciting scenes of the fall of Napoleon is well drawn and interesting and affords Mr Mantell in his double character of soldier and outlaw an opportunity to show remarkable versatility His rapid changes transformed him from a man every inch a soldier to a sneaking whining whin-ing rogue His passionate acting was masterful without being overdone Mr I Stuart B1 Captain Narcisse was at times amusing and at times heavy displaying equal polish in all moods Miss Behern was a woman in her acting and as such t made a very strong appeal to the ieelings I in her passionate parts Miss Kerrigan i was sweet and quite demure The rest of the support though somewhat weak was passable The play in all may well rank w among thosa which give most pleasure to f the theatrical public r i AFRICA An early attraction at the Salt Lake theatre 11 tne new spectacular comic opera Africa in which Mr George Thatcher and his Operatic Extravaganza company are appearing this season The piece is heralded as one of the most enjoyable en-joyable of its kind being interesting and ce lucid in story bright and pleasing in music and most gorgeous in scenery and costumes Everything connected with the production is new and complete in every detail insuring a presentation the like which has never before been seen in this city Tho presenting company numbers over seventy people including twentysix principals and a chorus ofT O T thirtyfive The engagement here will I be for three nights commencing Thursday Thurs-day July 20 |
