Show SILVER MASS MEETING I Ogden Holds an Enthusiastic Convention Last Night OGDEN July 11SpecialThe people peo-ple of this county held an enthusiastic silver convention in this city tonight About 2000 people were present many of them ladies The meeting was held in the city park pavilion and was the largest and most enthusiastic mass meeting meet-ing held in Ogden sihce the transMis sissippi congress met here The meeting was called under the auspices of the commercial com-mercial organization of Ogden Judge A B Patton president of the chamber of commerce was chairman He opened the meeting with a ringing address in favor of free coinage A letter from Judce Goodwin of Salt Lake was read Judge McMillan opened with p warm and long discussion by announcing announc-ing himself as favoring independent political po-litical actiSn in case neither of the old parties do speedily take such action regarding the remonetization of silver as the people of the west and south want Judge R Rhodes was forninst anything else but party loyalty He believed that the Democrats would soon remonetize white metal A series of resolutions were read and referred to a committee to reconstruct re-construct and report at i ubsequent meeting E R Ridgely president of the board of trade and now in Denver attending the silver meeting there was elected a delegate to represent Ogden in the St Louis and Chicago conventions |
