Show ST MARYS ACADEMY An Institution of Which All Salt Lake City la I Proud Sixteen years ago there was established in Salt Lake City an institution of learning of vhlch every citizen has always been proud and which has become famous throughout all the intermountain country vlz St Marys Academy From a I I small beginning it has grown year by year until now more than three hundred pupils aro enrolled Situated in the heart of the city with the magnificent grounds surrounding sur-rounding it forms a qui t country retreat in the midst of r bustling city During tho past year en addition has been made to the building of tho same size a the original structure three stones and basement and the institution is now complete com-plete Broad stairways lead from the ground floor to those above and every provision pro-vision is made for the care comfort and protection of the pupils In the basement of the now building are two large rooms shut off from each other by sliding doors and with a broad hall between be-tween which are the recreation rooms for the pupils Each aro well lighted and well ventilated and both may be thrown Into one forming a very large hall for the holding hold-ing of many pleasant reunions On the second floor of the now building is the chapel a very beautiful one too where on Wednesday afternoon next tho I sixteenth annual commencement exercises I of tho institution will be held exercses I I Across from the chapel is the new art room wherein are placed many of the productions pro-ductions of the pupils Here is shown the work of the art scnool There are sketches and drawings in pencil and crayon portraits por-traits landscapes and flowers in oil pastel work etchings paintings on plush velvet and satin and ceramic work Much of this i exquisite and all admirably done This room will btj opened today for inspection in-spection by the public and an invitation is extended to all to come Near the art studio is the library room containing well selected books on science art literature and travel Another room on this floor contains a cabinet wherein are arranged a splen did collection of minerals from the mountains around as well as a valuable collection of fossils In this room is also shown the excellent sets of chemical and philosophical apparatus which the academy possesses The music room or rather rooms are on this floor also and every facility is afforded pupils who desiro to excel in music and pupils are graded as in the English course from the tenth class for beginners to tho graduating department There is also a department devoted to plain sewing and ornamental needlework and that which 1 now on exhibition as the work of the pupils shows that they excel in I this as In everything else There are I many articles that aro exquisitely wrought and a number of dresses are shown mado by the pupils and which will be worn by them at commencement exercises Tile academy as is well known is espec j ially for boarders but day pupils are also received and a walk through the dormitories shows wonderful cleanliness cleanli-ness Taken m its entirety it is an academy where parents can place their daughters knowing full well that they will be admirably cared for As i said above tho academy is centrally located lo-cated for all the buildings are splendidly l Lighted heated and ventilated the grounds beautiul in every way the course of instruction in-struction as good as any institution of its kind anywhere and the object is to impart to pupils a thorough education and make the young ladies intelligent good and re fined members of society The public are invited to the sixteenth annual commencement exercises on Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon next and to tbo academy parlors and studio from today until the J4th inst 4 |
