Central Committee b I Com-mittee met at the I rooms of the Central 1u club in this city at noon yesterday The call of the roll showed the following members mem-bers present person or by proxy S A Merritt chairman A G Norrell secretary secre-tary M B Sowles R C Chambers John Shields by Joseph Cohen proxy S W Mcsby by Walter Murphy proxy J W McNutt H H Smith by J W McNutt proxy H T Duke by C S Charles W Zane deceased de-ceased A committee consisting of Chambers McNutt and Walcott was appointed to suggest sug-gest names of persons to fill vacancies caused by the removal of Ben Sheeks and death of Charles W Zane which after a brief consultation reported P L Williams and J L Rawlins approved On motion a committee of fie consisting consist-ing of Williams Cohen Hanuoberg Wal cott and Cross were appointed to suggest an outline of action for the central commit teo to consider and n recess was taken until 230 p m Upon reassembling the last named committee com-mittee reported the following resolutions WHEREAS The Peoples party at the desire de-sire of its members by its constituted authorities au-thorities has been dissolved and no longer exists and WIIEHEAS It is the expressed desire of those who formerly composed that party to divide upon national lines in harmony with American politics and methods and many have already done so by attaching themselves them-selves according to their preferences to i the Democratic and Republican parties and WHEREAS in Utah as elsewhere in our common country tho Democratic party seeks to enlist the services of every patriotic citizen to secure the triumphs of its principles that the best interests of the whole country may be subserved Now therefore be it resolved First That it h the sense of this committee com-mittee that the Democratic party of Utah accepts the act of the dissolution of the Peoples party as done in all sincerity and good faith and will give to its former mem Oers who may unite with it a cordial welcome wel-come SecondThat it rejoices in the belief that we are now entering upon an era of I good will wherein the animosities engendered engen-dered by past local contentions uil be healed and that the people of the territory while contending for the supremacy of the national party of their choice will unitedly work in peace and without bitterness and strife for the prosperity and happiness of the territory Third That a committee composed of the chairman and three other members of this committee prepare and issue an address ad-dress to the Democrats of this territory enDing upon them to unite as one man in an effort to build up the party in Utah As a minority report Joseph Cohen proxy for John Shields submitted the following 1 Vberefis Believing that the time is not yet opportune for the Gentiles of Utah to I divide on party lines and regarding the dismemberment of the Peoples party as a ruse of the leaders of the Mormon church for the purpose of obtaining statehood and ultimately gaining its political control to the detriment of the best interests and welfare of tho territory Resolved That this committee take no action toward a division on party lines believing ieving that it is not within their province so to do that when in tho opinion of this committee the time shall have arrived to divide on party lines a Democratic terri tonal convention shall be called to act on the matter and the chairman and secretary of this committee shal be authorized to issue is-sue such call And moved that the same be substituted for the report of the majority Lest The question then recurred upon tho report re-port of the majority which after discussion was adopted by a vote of 14 for to 5 atrainst HT Duke by C S Desky W M Terry John Shields by Joseph Cohen John Farrish S W Mosby by Walter Murphy Mur-phy voting in the negative A committee consisting of S A Merritt P L Williams R W Cross and J L Rawlins was appointed to draft and publish an address to the people of the territory in accordance with the sentiments expressed ex-pressed in the resolutions adopted On motion the chairman was authorized to appoint an advisory committee of five and in conjunction with the Parowan Organizes A call had been issued by some sixteen wellknown residents inviting all citizens who wish for the success of Democratic principles to meet at the court house on the evening of the 16th Accordingly quite a number of people were in attendance John H Henderson was chosen chairman and William Daven oort secretary A number of good speeches wero made and quite a number signed the > be the scene of the most notable gathering of Democrats that ever yet assembled as-sembled in Utah Delegates to the first county convention of the party to the number num-ber of one hundred and fifty will assemble for the purpose of naming a county committee com-mittee This done and the Democratic party in this county will have a formal andre and-re ular organization all the proceedings hitherto having been managed by a temporary tem-porary committee An erroneous idea exists in the minds of some delegates that the convention will nominate a ticket for the county offices to bo filled at the August election elec-tion The main duty tomorrow is to elect a county central committee This committee commit-tee will issue the calls for a convention to make up the county ticket and the territorial terri-torial central committee will call the conventions con-ventions for nominating members of the legislature The School Election Neither party seems as yet to have taken any steps in the matter of the school election elec-tion Five of the present board of education educa-tion two Peoples men Pyper and Pike and three Liberals Lett Duke and Armstrong Arm-strong go out of office at the end of
