Show I MATI ATO MOYEE Yesterdays Arguments Closed the Investigation 1 In-vestigation of the Commissioners j Emma Watkins Gives Her Account of I the Hobbs CaseShe Gave Martin Only S3 Argument was heard yesterday before the investigating committee in the matter of the charges against United States Commissioners Com-missioners Moyer and Martin and it was not until 530 oclock in the afternoon that the arguments were concluded and the case submitted The opening argument argu-ment was made by Charles Baldwin as to both commissioners and he was followed by Judge Judd in behalf of Mr Moyer and Judge Loofbourow for Mr Martin J H Hard then closed the argument for r the prosecution and Mr Moyer was granted the privilege of making a brief talk in his own defense EMMA WATKINS STORY Prior to arguments Emma Watkins the woman who made the charge against the man Hobbs in Commissioner Martins court was put upon the stand and examined exam-ined with reference to that muchtalked of affair She stated that Bush was 1 pointed out to her as an officer and she poured her story into his ear He then took her to Commissioner Martins office and after relating her to the afer relatng woes te commissioner com-missioner made out a complaint and she swore to it She did not remember what charge she made against Hobbs Later Bush went to see Hobbs and got 25 I from him and gave it to her I She then gave Bush 55 and the commissioner commis-sioner 5 and kept the balance The commissioner did not give her any receipt for the money Her testimony a whole II was in Mr Martin favor and tended to substantiate his own testimony in relation to the matter The examining committee will make out their report at the earliest possible moment and file it together with a transcript of the testimony with the supreme court for its action |
