Court Thought Registrar Allen Should Be Given Something Some-thing Other Business The county court met at 10 oclock 1 yesterday morning with all members present and was in session the greater part of tho day Business was transacted as follows David Searle appeared in answer to a citation to show cause why he does not support his father who is an inmate of the infirmary David stated that work was scarce and money ditto and that as he took care of his mother he was unable to extent his protection to his father On motion Mr Searle was excused after he had delivered himself of the foregoing THE THIRTYSEVENTH DISTRICT DISPUTE The petition of residents of the thirty seventh school district and others asking for a change of boundary lines the re monstance thereto and the adverse report of the county superintendent of schools were laid over until April 10th and the clerk instructed to notify the first petitioners petition-ers and other interested parties of said continuance The original petition contained twelve names and the remonstrance contains thirty The latter is made by residents of district 2So 57 on the round that they only have enough children to make a good school now that it would leave their school houses all on one side of the district and that they have made preparations prepar-ations to construct a new building and have levied a tax for that nurpose etc The county superintendent also cites these facts and states that not more than six of the original signers live in the strip of territory to be affected by the change He further states that the Thirtyseventh district is richer than the Fiftyseventh and in view of the circumstances cir-cumstances as a whole he does not think the petition should be granted George Canning asked that a tax sale be set aside Referred back for proof of facts stated The county physician reported patients in the various city hospitals as follows St Marks 3f St Marys 1 Deseret 6 total 10 Piled A FOREST DALE NUISANCE Orson Rumel complained that unknown parties were using the roadway on Fifth East street between the penitentiary and his residence in Forest Dale as a dumping for rotten fish decayed vegetables etc and asked that the nuisance be abated Filed WANTS A SLAUGHTERHOUSE DfSPECTOK W C A Smoot jr called the attention atten-tion of the court to the dire need of a slaughterhouse inspector to prevent the slaughtering of animals which are unfit for the market and solicited immediate action in the premises Referred to the county attorney A SUCCESSOR FOR ECKLUND Frank Pierce et al petitioned for the appointment of W M Risley as constable con-stable in the First precinct of the city on the ground that A E Ecklund the present pres-ent incumbent is in the employ of the city and does not give the office proper attention at-tention Granted The coroners report on two inquests was received and filed W H Hendrickson complained of a slaughter house nuisance on Twelfth South and Ninth East Streets and the matter was referred to the county attorney at-torney J J Snells petition for relief from a double assessment in the sum of 2670 was granted The clerk was insructed to execute a deed to the probate judge for the north onehalf of lot 2 block 35 plat E and to advertise the same for sale in the usual way Christian Six asked relief from a tax sale made in 1890 and the usual order was made to sell the same in order that he may repurchase The application of Allen Hall for liquor license at Bingham Junction was granted and bond approved The petition of W S Falkenburg and 111 others asking that school district No 40 be subdivided was deferred until April 10 and the clerk instructed to notify the county superintendent to be present WANTS HER LAND BACK Eliza Shafer sent in a petition asking that certain lands be reconveyed to her It appears that the petitioner deeded to the county a strip 01 land four rods wide between Salt Lake city and the lake for the express purposes of a boulevard or driveway between the two places Subsequently Sub-sequently she signed a petition to the county court consenting that the county might grant a rightofway along the proposed boulevard to the Salt Lake Los Angeles Railway company But now she asks for a reconveyance of the land upon the ground that the promises have not been carried out as made to her at the time she deeded the land to the county and further that neither the county nor the railway company has availed themselves them-selves of any of the premises mentioned up to the present time The matter was referred to the county attorney Road Supervisor Kent was instructed to put in a thirtytwofoot culvert at the in tersection of Redwood road and highway I No 69 and the clerk was authorized to give an order on Selectman Cahoon for the necessary lumber A resolution establishing ard defining the boundaries of the election precincts I road districts and school districts in Salt Lake county was read and adopted The application of Mrs Mary A Shafer for liquor license was granted and the bond approved THE VOTE ON THE BONDS An official canvas of the votes cast at the recent bond election was made as follows that he appreciated the executive ability shown by Mr Hinman since his incumbency there but thought there were other good men in the party who should have the place for a season and recommended Joel F Allen After some informal talk Selectman Bamberger I moved that Joel F Allen be appointed superintendent of the infirmary to take charge on April 1 Judge Blair seconded the motion and it was carried all members mem-bers voting in the affirmative except Selectman Cahoon Mrs Allen was then appointed matron by a unanimous vote Adjourned for one week |
