| Show THE IlDWINTER FAiR An Important Meeting of the > Committee Yesterday p IT IS ASSUMING SHAPE f j g WHAT WILL BE NEEDED FOIt JUV t EXHIBIT IIr Pacific Paving Companys Good Work The Power Company Utah Dried Fruit Tlie Joint Buildinsr t Back From ChicagoClearings and Transfers The executive committee of the committee com-mittee of twentyfive which has In charge the collection of an exhibit for the territory to be sent to the California Cali-fornia midwinter fair held another meeting yesterday afternoon at the office of Secretary Snyder of the chamber cham-ber of commerce There were present V Messrs Grant Webber Bamberger Gray Hubbard Scott and Snyder P H Lannan one of the national World lair commissioners George D Pyper and Don Maguire were also present by special invitation they having been requested to meet the committee for the purpose of giving the members the benefit of their wide experience in exposition ex-position matters The meeting was devoted almost entirely en-tirely to a discussion of the matter of exhibit space transportation and advertising ad-vertising matter Mr Lannan is taking tak-ing a great deal of interest in the proposed V pro-posed exhibit and offered many valuable valu-able suggestions during the course of the discussion which was entered into by all of the gentlemen present Mr Lannan was of the opinion that the Tabernacle choir should be taken to the coast for the purpose of again I showing what the people of this territory ter-ritory can do in the way of music and he felt confident that the managers of the exposition and the railroad com I nnnJps would spfi that the members of the choir received free transportation Regarding space the gentleman thought 25 bj 50 feet would be sufficient and Was of the opinion that within such a space Utah could make a display which would attract all eyes toward her He further announced that he expected to leave for San Francisco last night and being personally acquainted with the managers of the exposition would be able to oblain concessions for the territory which it might be otherwise unable to secure Hhe pledged himself him-self to do everything in his power to further the interests of the territory and those who are acquainted with the work done by the commissioner during V the Worlds fair can form some estimate esti-mate of the V I service he will be able to rend IK mmittee Messrs P rand laguire also took part in the lisoussii and both were greatly ei tusert Or the matter They also ill do ev rything in their power to helt the c ° ise It was esti7iot 7 bat not less than 7500 would be needed to make a proper pro-per display of Utahs resources and possibilities 1000 for the space at the fair 1000 more for the booth which would of necessity have to be constructed con-structed 5000 for freight 2000 for salaries 2000 for the printing of a pamphlet on the resources of the territory ter-ritory and 1000 for incidentals Upon the suggestion of Mr Lannan It was decided to invite the ladies of V the city and territory at large to aid In the work and the following committee com-mittee was named with the request that the ladies of the territory be also invited to name additional members Mrs O J Salisbury V Mrs F S Rich W W Chrisholm Mrs Louis Cohn Mrs Emeline B Wells Miss Edith Weiler Miss Emily Clowes Mr Joseph Seigel Mrs Margaret Caine Mrs M E Phillips Mrs J C Royle Mrs R H Terhune Mrs Frank Pierce Mrs Frank Stevens Mrs W F Coulton V Mrs Mabry Mrs T C Iliff Mrs R G McNiece Mrs Steelman Mrs F W V Norris Mrs George Y Wallace Mrs f Thomas Carter Mrs W P Lynn Mrs W W Chrisholm Mrs Louis Kohn Miss May Preston Miss Teasdale Miss Naomi Conklin Mrs Richard Mackintosh f V Mackin-tosh and Mrs McCornick r The secretary was instructed to secretar w communicate com-municate with those having in charge f the goods being returned from the i Worlds fair asking that the articles artices j be held awaiting further action of the r committee The idea is to add some or all of these goods to the Midwinter lair exhibit On motion of Mr Bamberger the fol lowing subscription committee were appointed ap-pointed Business portionW H Rowe O J Salisbury Thomas G Web V ber John C Cutler B F Grant J H White George M Scott Fred H V Tite 1 Scott Auer f bach M H Walker Fred G Culmer I George A Snow G M Downey John Bechtol J H Bacon W P OMara r C P Mason C E Wantland and W V S Henderson General on West sideD C Adams W E Hubbard and J H Bennett V General east side H P G Coates t J F Grant and J R Winder jr 1 These committees will be notified 1 of their block assignment and probably i go to work early next week They will I be invited to meet with the executive eecutve l committee on Monday afternoon at 4 oclock and the committee adjourned |
