Show J TIlE SPECIAL ELECTION I The proclamation of the Governor for a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Hon Clarence W Hall fixes the date for the election elec-tion on Thursday January 4th 1894 This will give ample time for necessary preparations It is understood that the struggle for this seat will be conducted on strict i I party lines That is to say it will not be a threecornered contest The II Liberal organization it is stated will j i take no part in it The Democrats and the Republicans will each have a 1 I I ticket in the field and the late Liberals Lib-erals will support the candidate that 1 I II suits them best or accords more nearly with their sentiments on national politics poli-tics I That will be gratifying to the Democrats Demo-crats and we suppose will be joyfully greeted by the Republicans They expect i i ex-pect to bag the bulk of the Liberal vote They hope thereby to elect their i candidate They will endeavor to put j I up their strongest man and will make a vigorous canvass Every possible I effort will be made to win this seat in the House of Representatives I The Democratic party in this district J I should be on the alert and see to it j i that not only a strong and suitable man shall be nominated but that every I citizen claiming to be a Democrat no matter what flag he may have strayed off under In local affairs shall be welcomed into the party There are quite a large number of Democrats Demo-crats who have not heretofore joined I with the party in local elections Now is a good time for them to declare themselves openly if they so desire quietly if they so prefer But they i should take pride in helping to put a Democrat into the vacant seat in the legislature To those voters who are not wedded with either party we confidently appeal ap-peal for support in the coming contest con-test The Democratic party is the true friend to Utah which will be demonstrated in the future as in the past and we have no doubt tliat if a full canvass is made it will be found that there is a clear Democratic majority ma-jority in the Fifth legislative district even when all the Liberal Republicans have reached their true affinity Work should commence without delay |
