"Getting better with age" might be the motto of the Davis County Fair. From its beginning in 1925 when it was called "Farm Bureau Days" to the present three-day Davis County Fair it has become bigger and better. During the 1980 exhibition exhibi-tion over $11,000 in premiums pre-miums and prizes were awarded to Davis County residents. As the fair has expanded, ex-panded, so have its needs. Facilities that once were adequate have become inadequate. in-adequate. The site of the celebration has had to be moved the latest move from Davis High School to its present location where again it is "bulging at the seams." Dick Taylor, fair manager, mana-ger, said more people are participating. Entries may go down in one area, but at the same time they go up in another. And more workers are needed to keep the wheels in motion. mo-tion. Mr. Taylor currently is serving his third year as fair manager. He is the seventh person to serve in that position since the late Henry W. Galbraith was appointed as the first official offi-cial fair manager in 1958. Special events are high on the list of attractions at the 54th annual celebration celebra-tion schedule Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Fairgrounds at Lagoon La-goon . "We have something for everyone," Mr. Taylor said. "In addiiton to the exhibits which are great, there will be pie and watermelon eating contests, con-tests, dives for dollars, greased pole climb, ping pong ball drop, horse shows, rodeos, bingo, special entertainment, programs for senior citizens, a barnyard for children and more. We're geared for 'Family fun in '81.' "People are the real moving force behind a successful celebration," the manager noted. "We have so many wonderful |
