Show THE LITTLE FOLKS Herald Compilations From the Most Approved Sources A Nice Little Story Accompanied With Inter eatlnsr Anecdotes and Smart Sayings ofYonnc America When l iennboy was about three years old he received two presents that ho liked very much One of them was a little brother ana the other was a watering pot For n time Kenniboy could not tell which he liked the better the watering pot or the baby but at last he decided in favor of the watering pot because it was not so easily hurt as the baby was and even when it was hurt it did not cry and besides the watering water-ing pot helped him with his flowers which the baby did not The watering pot made the flowers grow but as far as Konniboy could find out when the summer was overall over-all the baby had done was to pluck the flowers and tear them to pieces Once or twice when his little brother had torn a pretty rose or a verbena or a pink to Konniboy felt badly about and was quite willing that his mamma should spank little Russ for doing it but bis mamma had said no she could not do that because little Russ was too little to know any better and of course if he didnt mean to do wrong she could not punish him Well ho ought to grow big and learn better said Kenniboy and then he went out into the garden and raked the bed and watered the flowers again For some time he thought about the trouble he was having with his flowersand the more ho thought about it the more ho made up his mind that sometbing ought to be done to keep little Russ from tearing them up Finally ho decided what he should do and tried the plan One morning ho was left alone in the nursery with his brother for a few minutes min-utes Little Russ was sleeping very peacefully peace-fully in his crib when Master Kenniboy crept to the bath room and filled his watering water-ing l pot with water He then tiptoed back into the nursery and was just about to empty tho water over his little brother when his mamma came in Why Kenniboy she cried What are you doing Im watenn Wussell he said with a bright little smile But you must not do that cried mamma mam-ma grasping the watering pot from Kenni boys hands Youll get him all wet But I want him to grow mamma said Kenniboy I want him to grow big enough not to spoil my flowers so Im watenn him But mamma wouldnt lot him water the baby any more and Kenniboy wanted to cry very much but be didnt and when his papa came home that night both mamma mam-ma and Kouniboy told him all about it and papa said hed write to Father Time righ away and have him hurry up and maid little Russ big enough to understand tha he must notspoi Kenniboys flowers He must havo kept his word too for little Russ soon began to lengthen l out anis d an-is now almost big enough to have a littlo garden of his own which makes Kennibov very happy for he likes other littlo boys to have toys and nice things of their own |
