Show Eureka Will Celebrate Eureka June 23A meeting of the citizens committee was held at Eureka city for the purpose of the various committees making their reports on fireworks grounds decorations and ball to take place on the Fourth of July When the report of the committee appointed ap-pointed to call on the city council for an appropriation of 50 to assist in defraying de-fraying the expenses M D Bowen one of the council and a recent aspirant aspir-ant for our postoffice was loudly denounced de-nounced upon hearing the report from the committee that he was opposed to giving any assistance whatever The chair called upon W M Nesbit to act temporarily while the regular chairman of the committee put a motion to the house which was seconded and unanimously unani-mously carried The motion was as follows Moved that M D Bowen be requested by a written order of the secretary to remain away from the special council meeting June 22 1S94 The reasons given were the committee 1 on finance with the other committee believe he Bowen is an enemy to the j best Interests of the city Notwithstanding Notwith-standing that clue notice had been given him M D Bowen was present at the council meeting and became consplcu 1 our in opposition to the donation of 50 which was carried over his head headS |
