PontyPrldd Clam orgn says a terrible explosion occurred this afternoon in Albion colliery Two hundred miners are buried beneath the debris of the mine I is Relieved alarge number are killed I Is estimated eighty miners were killed either by the explosion or by theE the-E falling earth and rock Several parties of i volunteers in the work of rescue descended de-scended into the pit this evening Every possible effort is being made to save the imprisoned miners who are yet alive and to rescue the bodies of the dead None of the rescuing parties which went down A tonight have yet returned and this is taken to indicate that great difficulty is being mrt in reaching the place where the C S miners are entombed The entire population popula-tion of Cilfyndd and hundreds from Pont t yPryd and other places in the vicinity i gathered about the mouth of the pit this evening anxiously waiting for news from k the mine te k A dozen or more boys are among the number entombed Late tonight some of thf rescuers came to the surface and reported re-ported they had penetrated 10 yerds into the mine and found five men alive but L badly injured They also found thirteen men who had been killed This information informa-tion spread rapidly among the crowd at the pits mouth and the excitement grew in intensity Those who had friends or relatives In the mine asked with eager J strained faces If they ware among the dead Of course no information could be i vouchsafed then a the mine officials did not know the names of the killed and I many of the bodies were so badly burned that identification by the rescuing party under the dim light of their lamps was impossible The five men were I t brought up the shaft as quick as possible I possi-ble and the doctors who were present are doIng all in their power to alleviate their I sufferings Shortly after the five live men I were brought up the bodies found near i them were raised to the surface and i placed in a shed near the mouth of the i t pit Here several of them were identified by their clothing i While the crowd was assembled about the shed twenty men and boys in a te semiconscious condition were brought up They had apparently not been Injured by the explosion but had Inhaled the afterdamp af-terdamp Had they not been found when I they were there Is no doubt they would have all been suffocated As time advances al vances the Impression grows that the loss will be greater than the first esti mate The men who have come to the surface report that they seen a number of bodies so pinned under the debris that It is Impossible as yet to extricate them r They also say that judging from the appearance ap-pearance of the faces of the bodies that t death in many cases was caused by afterdamp after-damp The gas Is hindering the work of the rescuers the fans n yet not having succeeded in freeing the pit of it In the further workings the gas is present In large quantities and this fact militates against any hope of saving the men imprisoned im-prisoned there prisone June 24Morc bodies were recovered covered and brought out after midnight Many of them were s terribly scalded I Iav the fesh tem almost dropped from them I ard
