Show RAILROAD RACKET The Central Pacific trains are moving somewhat nearer schedule time than heretofore here-tofore Heavy snows on the Utah Northern n and Oregon Short lino branches of the Union Pacific caused considerable delay i nat the running of trains Alfred Reeves a young man employed at the Union Pacific coal mine No 7 at Aliny was instantly killed on Monday by being crushed between the cars of a train The next annual meeting of the Freight Agents association will be held in Denver No date has yet been fixed but it will be some time this spring in which event they will visit Salt Lake George Hedges of the Union Pacific ticket office is beaming with smiles and his acquaintances are unable to give a reason rea-son for it The cause is that George has brought his wife here from Denver where she has been for some time and given up his bachelor habits The Union Pacific train due here at12 30 p m was five hours late yesterday due to an accident on the line A doubleheader freight was nearing Piedmont when the switch lever sprung causing the rails to lap and derailing the first engine Engineer Lew Karr and Fireman Thomas Henshaw saw the danger and in attempting to jump fell in front of the other moving engine i Karrs left arm was literally crushed to a pulp and his right fcot was also badly crushed When picked up he was woun das under the driving wheels and it w d-as found necessary to cut his clothing into shreds in order to secure his release from the perilous position It was found necessary neces-sary to amputate Karrs arm and the operation oper-ation was performed Fireman Henshaw in jumping also came in contact with the engine and received a serious compound fracture of the knee It is very doubtful if he can receiver It is thought amputation amputa-tion is necessary in his case |
