Show I THE MILITARY OKLAHOMA Secretary Proctor Transmits to Congress the Papers Relative the its Action There WASHINGTON Feb 26Ia response to the Senates resolution the secretary of war to day transmitted to Congress the paper relative to the actions of the military tary in Oklahoma One interesting feature is the charges against the military of undue un-due and harsh exercise of authority The officers in charge reply that they found I large numbers of lawless people and the action taken by them was necessary for the preservation of peace The charges charges are said to have emanated from discontented discon-tented gamblers and others whom the military tary prevented from causing trouble As to preventing an election on September 21 it was done at the request ff the regularly constituted officers bf the city and with a view to preventing serious trouble which would certainly have occurred The call L for the election was issued by discontented Land L-and unruly citizens and contrary to the city charter General Schofield thinks considering the delicate service required I it is a matter congratulation that it was I performed takes so well and with so few mis |
