Show THE BREWERY NOKAflOE The brewery nuisance in the southeastern southeast-ern part of the city remains unabated Tho washings slops and swills from the great beer institution have been flowing into the canal for weeks Then the people living near the canal petitioned the city conncil to abate the nuisance and the council sent somebody to see to it who set tho horrible black liquid free from the canal by turning it down the sidewalk ditches This concentrated con-centrated filth flowing past the front doors of people in that part of the city is no doubt the cause of much sickness in that region The liquid filled with fine impalpable im-palpable particles of decaying malt and hops loaded with poisonous microbes and murderous mur-derous bacilli It saturates the soil and seeps into wells It poisons the air with afoul a-foul sickly indescribable odor There is no reason why an institution that pays so well as beermaking does here should not be able to dispose of its surplus slops without running them into tho wells of people who live near by We are told that in no other section of country are the facilities for making beer or the price of the article or the profits better than they are right here Yet this great moneymaking institution must needs inflict a whole section sec-tion of the city by neglecting to dispose of its slops in any other way than by simply turning them into the ditches to run down the hill into the city Will tha council condescend to look into this nuisance or will the citizens of that locality bo obliged to get an injunction to prevent being flooded with the brewery wage I |
