Show Dillon on the Omaha Bridge Trouble NEW YORK Dec 30President Dillon if the Union Pacific made a statement to J day in regard to the Omaha bridge trouble between the Union Pacifc and the St Paul and Rock Island roads May 1 lSO what purported to be a lease of tho Union Pacific bridge terminals at Omaha and the use of its main track was made to the StPaul and Rock Island roads These leases were for a consideration of about half what the company received last year from its bridge tolls Acting under these leases of our terminals at Omaha the Rock Island advertised and open a competing compet-ing line to the Union Pacific for its whole length from Omaha to Ogden thus paral I leling the Union Pacific for its entire length The government directors requested re-quested the president of the company to suspend action under these leases until such time as they could be legally aavised as to their validity valdit asM In regard to tho statement of President Miller that the bridge trouble would inter ferewith thePresidents agreement Edwin Gould said I is a different matter This has nothing to do with the maintenaco of rates Jay Gould later said the alleged leases with the Rock Island and St Paul were as business transactions tho most ridiculous and absurd he ever encountered The United States Senate committee in its report re-port stated the Union Pacific terminals at Omaha and Kansas City were worth at the lowest appraisement 15000000 For thee us the-e of such property the sum proposed toe b to-e paid was utterly insignificant Gould says there is no reason to apprehend that this matter would unfavorably affect the Presidents agreement |
