TIE PEOPLE VB THE CITY I Every day brings fresh indications of the efforts of the people tQ protect mselves against the rapacity of their supposed servants ser-vants the officers of the city government Beginning its career in fraud its members mem-bers holding on t offices to which a court decision showed they had not been elected the Liberal administration is now regarded by many as a conspiracy to rob and plunder the city Suit after suit has been brought to resist the rapacity of the city government and to check the mischief of its malicious play at law making The latest examples are the injunction fled by Councilman PICKARD to preserve to thepeople a piece of valuable public property prop-erty in the shape of ten acres of land in the heart of the city and the action of objectors to the special tax for water mains In our opinion the people should encourage both these movements to restrain the extravagant extrava-gant carelessness of the city officials or there is no telling where that extravagance will end There are needed several HAMPDEXS just now to withstand the tyranny of high taxation tax-ation and wanton Eer o wanon extravagance Every extra dollar of which the people are fleeced is another dollar wasted by the Liberal administration ad-ministration Public policy at the present time requires that not a dollar shall go into the public treasury beyond the amount raised by legitimate means and required for actual ordinary expenses The present government has shown itself unworthy to be trusted beyond the limit of doing those things which admit of no delay The citizens citi-zens should resist with vigor every new imposition
