| Show JUDGE BEATTYS VICTORY President HARRISON has now appointed JOIES H BEJLTTT United States judge for the district of Idaho We think better of the President for doing this We like a man who will strike back and ho has struck back in an effective manner Judge BEATTTS nomination failed of confirmation in tho Senate because he was opposed by the Idaho Senators and he was opposed by them for no other cause than that ho had been man enough as a private citizen to refuse be one of their benchmen The gentleman was accused of various evil deeds but when he faced his licensers with an emphatic denial they were silent and thus confessed that they were slanderers His vindication was so complete that the judiciary committee madellp of political opponents as well as part friends unanimously recommended his confirmation and his nomination would have gone through smoothly under any other circumstances than those existing single objection to consideration could dolayaction twentyfour hours and then the session would end An outgoing Senator Sen-ator was found who hated HJLKIUSOX with such intensity that ho was ready to do anything any-thing to annoy the President and he objected ob-jected to the consideration of the nomination nomina-tion thus preventing the confirmation The President has now made the appointment which will put Judge BEATTT on the bench where he cannot be disturbed before the meeting of Congress next December De-cember Then the nomination will go to the Senate and will of course be confirmed as an objection there will not delay action until the close of the session The best thing about this whole business Is that the presumptious Idaho Senators have destroyed their influence with the administration ad-ministration and will hereafter not be in a position to ask favors from tho President They will haveto take a back seat and it Is not likely that many of their henchmen will be rewardedfor their services with fat jffices |
