to light the loup concealed treasures of gold and silver to enlarge the circulating medium of the world f While no Homer has risen yet to chronicle the mighty deeds ol these humble heroes of the mountain in imperishable song the story of their travels and tramps may be read in the quickening pulse of trade and the glad smile of a prosperous land The history ol Idaho from the first discovery report for this year is not quite completed com-pleted his estimate of the outpnt for 1S91 including lead is 10000000 in round numbers num-bers Dr Cunniuehams estimate is conservative con-servative and eminently reliable Commencing in tho extreme southwestern southwest-ern part of the state THE MIXES OF OWTHEE COUNTY are all in a prosperous condition The output out-put from the mines of this county reaches the sum of 1000000 annually The Do Lamar mine is a wonder Development work has been going on constantly and the amount of ore now in sight is estimated at 6000000 Its present output is 60000 per month The plant includes a modern eightyton pan amalgamating milL An addition ad-dition is being made to the mill that will enable the company to frush 500 tons of ore a day The ore ranges in value from il0 toper 65 to-per ton gold with some silver Early in 1863 valuable quartz rock was discovered dis-covered near Silver City From the start the output of gold was enormous As a quartz mining center the town had no rival outside of the Comestock until the panic of 1875 since which time until within a few years back but little mining was done The most valuable mines are on War Eagle and Florida moun tains The Nellie Stoddard carries free milling gold and runs 20 to the ton The Black Jack group in the fourteen years it has been running has yielded l30l000 Tho Phillips d Sullivan is also a good yielder The Poorman and the Trade Dollar Dol-lar together with the Flint mines are familiar fa-miliar to the readers interested In mining matters THE MIXES OF ALTURAS COUNTY I are celebrated in the annals of the state The average of Alturas county ores in gold silver and lead is 5160 a ton and the yearly shipment will reach 6000 tons making mak-ing the yearly output nearly a million dollars dol-lars IX ELMORE COUNTY the Rocky Bar mines have done quite well the past year There are in this district 122 head of stamps with a crushing capacity of 224 tons a day The Atlanta district has five mills with a daily capacity of 150 tons There are also two concentrating concen-trating mills at Atlanta with a daily capacity ca-pacity of forty tons and both mills are inconstant in-constant operation Pine Grove has one tenstamp mill and has some remarkably rich mines About six hundred men are employed in this vicinity vi-cinity BOISE COUNTY has been holding her own as among the leading mining counties of the state The rich placer diggings in the vicinity of Placerville Quartzburg and Idaho City are Known as far as Idaho is known but it has happened here as elsewhere in tho state that placer ban given away to quartz mining and the thud of the miners pick the blast of dynamite and tho noise of crushing ore now make the music of the mountain fastnesses The Gold Hill mine located at Quartzburg is an excellent producer pro-ducer Since 1870 its twentyfivestamp mill has not been idle The workings have 24 reached a depth of over five hundred feet The Washington nine runs a twenty stamp mill on high grade ores The Silver King has a vein of ore running 200 ounces of silver to the ton The Banner mill and mine are celebrated in the mining history of the state The ore runs from 75 to 5100 on an averege This mill has turned out every summer and fall since started over 100000 Last year the mill ran 2SO days and turned out 544900 in silver The 500 foot level the lowest in the Banner turned out ore that milled 515 to the ton At and near the surface the ore from the Banner goes 40 to the ton and increases in richness as they go down A tunnel 3700 feet long is now being run to tap the mine nt a greater depth The Queen of the West carries free milling ore and runs a twentystamp mill During the closing I days of 1S91 valuable mines have been discovered dis-covered in many parts of the basin At Grimes pass a quartz vein was uncovered a few months ago that is thought to be the i I source of the rich placer mines along the creek near Placerville Good prospects have also been found at Pocatello in Bing ham count I I THE MIXEHAL BELT OF CD8TER COUNTY is one hundred miles long and fifty milbs wide Yankee Fork district in Custer county has a thirtystamp mill and is crushing much ore The Germanian mines have true fissure veins and run HOO in silver and 20 in gold to the ton Bay Horse has a fortyton smelter Valuable mines near this place are making a good output each year Custer countys mineral product will average SOO000 a year in gold and silver The famous Viola group of mines is located in Lemhi county It produces per cent in lead and from twelve to forty ounces in silver to the ton One load recently discovered in the Yellow Jack district in this county assayed in gold silver and copper 450 a ton IDAHO COUNTY has a splendid group of mines Warrens ia perhaps the best mining camp in the county Three fivestamp mills are in operation at Warren The Knott mine owned by Governor Willey during tho time it has been working has produced 100000 it will average 1000 a week The Little Giant owned by Mr Riebald is a good producer There is a tine waterpower i j water-power fivestamp mill on the mine and also a roas ingand reducingplant forsilver The JMaytiower group contains lowgrade ore running from 10 to S12 a ton but there is I plenty of it Over ICO men are employed in this camp THE COPPER MIXES of Seven Devils district in Washington county are widely known Theyearly production pro-duction of minerals from this county is of silver 100000 of gold 25000 and of copper cop-per 25000 The year just closed has been
