Show THE LATEST FROM LA PLATA One Hundred and Fifty People In the Mines Through the Colil Weather Mr C K Westover one of the owners of the Red Jacket and several other mining claims at La Plata arrived in Ogden Saturday Satur-day after a three days journey down from the mines on snow shoes Tho snow at La Plata is very deep and all work is i stopped except in those mines where shafts have been put down In the La Plata mine tunnels about eisht feet in width are being made in three different directions di-rections A heavy body of ore was struck in the tunnel at the fifty fOOL level and it is the intention to sink it another fifty feet leetTho The La Plata is working flf tytwo men and tons of ore are being put out on the dump and in the ore houses The Sunrise is showing up splendidly and six men are at work The Red Jacket keeps five men constantly at work and the large ore house is almost tilled with the raw products ready to be shipped to a smelter The Lostsheep is working four men and the Heller six end both are showing up splendidly The weather at La Plata has been extremely ex-tremely cold and the thermometer has ranged from 10 to 32 degrees below zero On Christmas morning it was l below Mr Westover thinks all told there are about a hundred and fifty people in camp Several families are there and dances furnish amusement several times a week Everyone has enjoyed excellent health and no sickness whatever has been reported On his way down to Ogden Mr West over counted twentyfive snowslides the most of which were in Middle fork The Ogden road is completely blockaded but Billy Wilson who has the contract for hauling ore from several of tho mines to Ogden expects to make an attempt to open it up this week The snow did not drift so badly on the Logan road owing to the south winds and it was broken through Tuesday |
