on consent for restitution of premises and costs of suit If Ogden does not come into prominence through advertising the Mardi Gras carnival carni-val then nothing else will make it known to the outside world Every prominent newspaper in tile United States has been engaged to advertise the carnival Now is a good time to enforce the sanitary sani-tary regulations Warm weather is corning corn-ing soon and all filth should be removed from the surface of the ground before the heat of the sun causes it to rot and taint the atmosphere and breed disease There are 143 real estate firms in this city at present and almost as many more preparing pre-paring to go into the business One of the firms now here say that their cash business was greater last month than during any previous thirty days since they came to Ogden The Ogden readers of THE HERALD are notified that during conference the Utah Central will run special trains between Ogden and Salt Lake city The train will leave Ogden daily at 740 am and arrive at Salt Lake at 9 20 It will leave Salt Lake at 6 pm and arrive in Ogden at 730 There is some talk of several secret societies uniting and building a fine structure struc-ture to be used for lodge meetings etc Should they do this they would be able to erect a building equal to any now in the city and there is no doubt that it would prove a paying investment to the stockholders stock-holders The sidewalk ordinance calls for plank 1 In all districts except No 10 where as phaltum must be used It is the general understanding that in this case plank is construed to mean plank or anything better bet-ter It is very probable that very few people peo-ple will use plank which is little if any better than gravel Vitrified brick and coal tar will be used instead of plank and In some cases granite or other stone will be put down J H Spargo who owns a valuable lot on Washington avenue opposite the Broom hotel intends to erect a handsome four story structure upon it this season The lot extends only forty feet back from the street so that the building will have to be confined to that depth as it is not possible fox Mr Spargo to purchase the land in the rear even by paying double what it is worth Mr Spargo is authority for this statement The lower floor of the new slJ building will be used for a store and the 1 11 upper floors for offices I Two inspectors have been in Ogden for two or three days checking up and making mak-ing a thorough and searching examination of the postolttce They have satisfied themselves them-selves that the facilities for carrying on business are entirely inadequate and will BO state in their report to the department They find among other things that it is not possible to inaugurate the free delivery system at present and they say that it will not be inaugurated here until the street names are placed on all street corners cor-ners and all houses are numbered This calls attention to the fact that an ordinance ordi-nance of the city makes It the duty of the city engineer to assign a number to every house within the corporation limits and that after that is done it is obligatory upon the house owner to place that number on his house The city council were notified through this department of THE HKUAJD last season that Ogden would not get a 4 free postal deliver system until the houses were numbered A correct city directory Is almost indispensable for the use of carriers car-riers in cases where letters are not directed to a house number |
