Show THE EIGHTEENTH WARD The Flag and Banner Presentation Last Evening Even-ing A Large and Enthusiastic Andience The Eighteenth ward flag and banner presentation presen-tation last evening was a grand success in every particular Every nook and cranny of the building was filled The center of the hal was literally jammed At one side of the hall the drum corps in their red uniforms stood and on the other side stood the marching club shoulder to shoulder On the stage in their romantic Mexican costumes were seated the Mandolin and Guitar club forming In all a Mandoln brght teresting picture The programmewas novel and entertaining G The two youngest drummers in the city Frankie Burrell and Cecil Caws n each five fvt years of age played two selections on the drum The Mandolin and Guitar club gave a selec tion and after a hearty encore played another S A Kenner made a characteristic ad dress He referred to the Liberal par ties parade In Ogden city where one of the transparencies read Short on music but long on votes They were long long votes They reached from Evanston on the east to Terrace on the west Not long since a box car load of Dagos men unable to spenk sice or read English came over the Denver Rio Grande stopped here a few days were Ro tered in the Sixth ward and then went on to Collinston This was a grand trick I might say a Denver Rio Grande trick Some of these long votes we intend to cut short before February Ater a fine selection from the Mandolin and Guitar clut Mis Nette Snell presented the banner in the following neat and appropriate speech Mr President and Members of the Eighteenth Ward Political Club of the Peoples Party The pleasant duty devolves upon me of pre senting to you this mannerthe free gift of the ladies of the ward to the soldiers of our march ing club AVe ask you to treasure it as a token of our devotion to a cause which we are prevent ed from actually engaging in but in which our hearts and sympathies are Intertwined with yours Hold it high in air that all of you may see the ensign of industry embossed upon its is surface to quicken your thoughts to the con temptation of the peace and frugality of the peo pie whose rights and liberties you are fighting lghtn for And when the enemy approaches you in friendships guise and seeks by sophistry and specious promises to steel your hearts against your people let our banner be the Inspiration of fealty to the brave women who handinhand I with tIe hardy heroes of 147 pioneered their way through peril and privation across a track less wilderness and planted in this valley the seed of a glorious commonwealth Let it assure i asue you of the love and the hope of the faith and I the prayers you leave at home Your mothers and sisters sweethearts and wivesand In the i firm conviction of a righteous cause march on ward behind our banner onward to success Great apnlause Mr AV B Barton said in behalf the march ing club of the Eighteenth ward We tender our heartfelt thanks for the beautiful banner presented In marching under we will always be true to our country and our cause and our feet will press mother earth more lightly and our hearts will feel the inspiration that comes through a noble deed when we think of the true women Who gave i Hon O F Whitney said I am here to represent repre-sent our Delegate to Congress Hon Tohn T Caine who has forwarded this beautiful em blem of our countrys glory Drum Major Clawson unfurled a fine company flag I am not asking you to cast your eves upon any strange or unfamiliar object AVe are accused of treaon but I ask you fellow citizens when did you ever march under any other flap 5 From earliest childhood we have been familiar with wih i Yes from the time our forefathers crossed the barren desert and upon reaching this land I unfurled our glorious banner upon Ensign peak we have known no other flag and w nt no other In addressing you I am mliirs lag sons and daughters of Americtns whose forefathers spilled their blood to give you this banner in behalf of a patriot an American citizen who though not with you says his heart is with you Go forward bravely and fight this great battle Do i as honest American citizens with this em blem ever unfurled above your heads Captain R V Decker accepted the banner and fag with the thanks of himself and comrades com-rades and would always carry them above us as guides to success Mr Ell Woolley complimented the members on the banner and flag one of the handsomest i I not the handsomest he had ever seen A vote of thanks was tendered to the speakers and the Mandolin and Guitar club The Eleventh The Eleventh Ward club had a rousing meeting meet-ing last evening the occasion being the annual el lection of officers The following were chosen resident AVlllanl Done vicepresident was crowded The senior and junior arching clubs were out in full force with u niforms and banners and were both heartily cheered as they marched into the room heariy chants of the martial band The programme began with a selection from t Sixteenth Ward brass band and though the band has only been reorganized a short time tie hey exhibited the oldtime skill for which they were so long noted After the transaction of several items of business busi-ness the President announced that the meeting could proceed to elect officers which resulted in i the election of Arthur Parsons president E A Folland the city c louncil meeting and would not be on hand to < speak with a great deal of regret Ell Folland being called by the house deliv red a rousing speech on the principles of frf e i government Captain Hamer was called on and ntertained the meetingwith a patriotic speech The club and drum corps will meet at the schoolhouse on Thuisday evening at 730 sharp The Fourteenth The officers of the Fourteenth Ward Politico lub as reelected at their meeting last night were F Y Taylor president George M Can non vicepresident R A Shipp secretary Alex S Campbell assistant secretary and George E Bourne treasurer The music from he drum and fife corps was enlivening The Twelfth 1 members of the Twelfth Yard Marching lub arc requested to meet at the chapel at 730 oclock this evening January 8 for drill with drl wih the Fifth precinct Everybody should be present pres-ent By order of the captain The Mandolin Club The regular meetine of the Spanish Mandolin and Guitar club meets in Calders R Lyon Mr Scott Anderson addressed the meet ing making a comparison between the political parties at present engaged In the political smug gle His telling points and his very effective delivery called
