Show BLOCKADES IX IDAHO Snow Prevents the Regular Running of Trains A Petition for Better Mail Facilities BELLEVUE Idaho Jan 7Speclal telegram to T HERALD Thursday January 2 the passenger train north bound stuck iI the snow a mile south of Ketchum Since then we have had no mails express or freight The railroad company has been making desperate eftorts t open tile road between Ketchum andHailey Up to the present time it has been unsuccessful Two engines managed t reach Shoshone Sunday Sun-day morning leaving the coach and baggage cars a mile and a half south of Ketchum being unable t haul them The engines returned i the evening with enges just reached Ketchum this afternoon The continued fall of snow for weeks together with severe weather has made flanges 1 the worst condition ever known to the road master Silver Creek ranchers here have been waiting for the train six days the depth of the snow preventing transportation with horses The snow is from four t live feet In the valley while 1 is immense in the mountains Up to the present time no slides are reported beinc presumably retarded by the severe weather The thermometer the last two nights has registered regis-tered SO degrees below zero regs The regular train was made up i to Sho stfjpe th afternoon and brought up mails tgSpimg Ketchum at 10 oclock and i expected io return with four engines bringing the coaches with the passengers and mails It is reported that the road from Bellevue Belle-vue t Ret hum cannot be flanged Kith steam on account of the high banks of snow on each side of the track thus preventing the efficiency of work The proFpects are that communication will be very irregular for sometime some-time The people all over the river are making strong complaints against tne delay I is reported that the people of Hailey are circulating a petition addressed t the author ities at Washington praying for better mall service P ser-vice The famous rotary plow having found ample occupation between Pocatello and Butte cannot be spared t assist us otherwise the duration of the blockade probably would not have been over twentyfour hours |
