Show WANTS MORE TRUMAX B DENNIS of Brooklyn N Y who affixes t his name exprivate Co I 23d Regt N Y S V sends us with a request publish a copy of a petition addressed ad-dressed t President Senate and House praying for the passage of han equalization bounty law The purpose of the proposed pro-posed law is set forth in these words Let all persons who on or before the first day of June A D 1863 enlisted and served in the United States service either in the army or navy for the term of two or more years and were honorably discharged from such service either for disability or on expiration of term and also the heirs of all those who were enlisted and served as above and were killed or died while in the service or have since died or may die before they have received the benefits herein petitioned for provided that such applicant or their heirs has not at any time been placed on the pension list and received pension money from the United States government on account of such services rendered wounds received 1 other disability contracted while in the iforesaid service shall be entitled to and m proper application and proofs of such jervice subject to the above and following ondition shall receive from the United < J States government four hundred dollars bounty money less the amount Of bounty money which has beenpaid the United States government to and received by such applicant We wouldnt for the world hurt the feelings of exPrivate DENNIS but we hope his schemo will be made t take his name We have a good many times suggested sug-gested that the greed which too many old soldiers have shown t get their hands into the treasury is a reflection on their patriotism patriot-ism and wo fear it is fast reducing them in reucng the esteem of true patriots t the unenviable unenvi-able position and condition of mercenaries Perhaps Mr DEnNIs himself has become ashamed of the raids upon the treasury in the name of pensions or probably thinks the pension business has been worked for all that it can be and now he would like to get more money by working the bounty dodge Whatever his motive his scheme should be squatted upon |
