| Show THE CASTLE VALLEY ROAD The Surveyors Now at Work in Salt Creek Canyon I What a great many people thought was be a mere railroad excitement when the Ensiyn published the news last Saturday is now developing into tangible shape and promises to be speedily matured A company com-pany of the leading movers in the newCastle new-Castle Valley railroad scheme passed through Nephi yesterday en route to the scene of future action It will be remembered that we published an interview with Mr B W Driggs jr the president of the new road November 1 relating to the proposed line of the new railroad which is to run from Castle valley via Nephi to Tintic and Salt Lake City in which he stated that the work would be commenced at once I we can judge the direction of the wind by the way tho straws are blown we will have little difficulty culty in arriving at a conclusion concerning concern-ing the late developments relating to the new railway lino the route of which is now being silently explored The action of this new company following follow-ing so closely upon the lato retirement of the Thistle valley force looks a great deal like a compromise of some sort upon the part of the two companies or i not 1 com nromise a deeper scheme of the owners of the Little Giant line otnerwise Known as the Rio Grand Western To run a branch line from Castle valley through San Pete Nephi and Tintic would tap not only an immense agricultural and stockraising district but would open up one of the richest coal and iron fields in the west to say nothing of the rich lead and silver mining district along the route What makes it look liko the Rio Grand Western is at the back of this new enterprise enter-prise is the fact that they are doing nothing noth-ing with their proposed line to Tintic From what we have been told we are forced to the conclusion that the Rio Ro Grand Western has joined hands with the promoters of the Castle valley road and that it will be their narrowgauge rolling stock that will be used on the line and which will penetrate the rich camp of Tintic Of course it is obvious that such a line would amount to but little comparatively speaking unless extended westward to the coast in order to connect California and the other rapidly growing states wIth the vast mineral deposits of central and southern Ttah Nephi located as she is in the very center of this vast region of mineral and agricultural wealth will naturally be selected se-lected as the great distributing point or the junction city and southern metropolis of the interior A few more days will no doubt develop some startling facts relating to this new railroad scheme which when fully made known will turn all eyes in the direction of central and southern Utah Nephi is a city O destiny whose future prospect few can fully comprehend Having Hav-ing not only superior location and numerous numer-ous natural advanteges but the requisite number of energetic and enterprising citizens citi-zens a well there is little room to doubt that the future prospects of Nephi are second to none and she will forge rapidly ahead until the goal of her ambition has been fully realized Nephi Ensign |
