Show WAS CERTAIN DEATH L Ed Cordons Rescue of a Cranky Stranger lIE WAS TWICE NEAR DEATH f I Sankc Peterson Falls From a 1 train Near Coriinic and Is Palled From the Track I Near Brigham City BRIOIIAM CIT Nov 18Special correspondence corres-pondence of TIlE HEUALUJ Ed Cordon i ot Willard brought a young man to town last Saturday that appeared to be another Central Pacific Railroad Last Monday t when Mr Cordon came near the Central Pacific Railroad track ho noticed a man r running around between the track and f cnco without a hat and acting more like a crazy man than anything else When he i saw Mr Cordon he raised his hand above his head and when spoken to lie said he was sick He was told to lay down while Cordon went to get a team When he returned I re-turned with the team he saw the stranger laying across the track Ho also saw another 1 an-other sight which caused him to shudder It was the west bound freight train which was coming at full speed not more than eight or ten rods away It also caused aim to try a 1 race with the iron horse He I gained the victory and pulled the unfortunate unfortu-nate man oil the track just in time to see his terrible opponent rush by The young man who afterwards gave his name as Sanke Peterson and a native of Germany was taken to Willard and tenderly cared for the first day or two it looked as though all 1is senses were entirely knocked out 1 Thursday t Friday he commenced to gather his thoughts His hat was found near tho track where a hole in the ground shows plamlj where he had struck when he fell or was pushed off the train He has A ticket from Healy Neb to Sacramento r Cal niit twenty cents When he commenced com-menced to talk he said that he had a check for 11X ud 70 in cash which he claims i l t h I 1i two or three men on the train wanted to take awiv Irom him so ho threw the mone out of the ear window but cannot tell where He can not remember that he fell off the train Mr Cordon went to Ogden and enquire at the railroad office if they had missed a man on the train Monday Mon-day or ii any baggage had been found belonging be-longing to him He was told that the conductor con-ductor on the train had reported that they had missed a man when near Corinne and had stated that if he had fallen off he must be dead as they were going at tho rate of fifty miles an hour a satchel had also been found and was then at Corinne The man was placed in charge of the county and is recovering slowly This is the second sec-ond person within a couple of weeks that has been found near the Central Pacific track in this county the first died about a week ago from the effect of his wounds Whether there has been foul play or not is yet to be learned OTHER XETS FROM BKIOHAM The street lamps haying been placed in order will hereafter give us light on the subject At fie tabernacle yesterday Elders J J Nielsen and W L Watkins occupied the time The former has just returned from a mission to Scandinavia John Johnson who has been very sick fer a long time died Saturday morning and will be buried today His daughter was buried about a week ago A company of canal surveyors are busy around town and have run half a dozen lines already and how many more they will run before they select one of them asa as-a permanent lino is hard to tell One line comes between the Third ward meetinghouse meeting-house and goes through several dwelling houses in the north west part of town It is anything but agreeable to have a canal of that size running right through town It might be considered a first class nuisance unless that portion that comes inside the city limits is bridged over and entirely covered up A special term of tho county court was held Saturday and it was a busy day at the court house Among the most prominent cases that came up was that of a number of saloon men at the canal camps who protested pro-tested against the county court raising tho liquor license Some lively talking was heard R A Jones the prosecuting attorney attor-ney appeared in behalf of the county and J M Coombs for and in behalf of the saloon sa-loon men The case was finally laid over until Tuesday next when a special term for that special purpose of hearing both sides of the whisky question will be held George Davis of Three Mile Creek has been visited by the dreaded typhoid fever which carried away two of his sons which were buried Sunday Lew Johnsons and another show are advertised to appear in the Opera house As we have no such building in Brigham city iv i might be well for them to explain and say what they mean |
