Show A HORSE IN A BARBER SHOP A Runaway Hone Jumps into the Cullen Hotel Basement There was a very pretty runaway downtown down-town lat evening F D Cliffs horse with buggy attachment vas tied in front of the ChIt House when Clft becoming frightened fright-ened he broke tho tiestrap and started off up street turning west onto Second South street At the Union Bank corner a corn doctor was surrounded with a motley crowd rapt in the tummings of his big banjo Making a broad and graceful sweep t the north side of the street the horse brought the buggy wheels skimming along tho outside of the crowd like a patent applepeeler and made a scattering that o fdl make le charge of bird shot blush The corn doctor stood on his ear unceremoniously while the crowd surged in on him and the horse and buggy swung around to the left Plunging up squarely in the front of tho Cullen hotel the animal took the first opening that presented pre-sented itself and with one wild jump ho scaled the steps and landed squarely in the barber shop in tho basement of tho hotel with the buggy still hanging to him The frightened barber ran for the first window and was soon out of tho way not even waiting to cut his customers face A crowd gathered around the horse was captured and unhitched and the buggy lifted out of the cellar The horse however how-ever refused to tackle the steep stone steps so he was led to the rear end of the basement base-ment But ho took no more kindly to the back steps than to the front and at last accounts he was still in the cellar gazing on the cobwebs which cling to Host Ewings wine bottles The steps down which the horse ran were very steep and the floor of the barber bar-ber shop where he landed is fully ten feet below the sidewalk The horses head was pretty badly cut up but the buggy was not seriously damaged |
