Show IDAHO INKLINGS The Thrift and Enterprise of the Bear Lake People IMPROVEMENT THE WATCHWORD The Good Work of the Connty Commissioners Some Easiness NotesTwo Terms of CourtThe Herald Catches On I MONTPELIER Idaho March 13Special I Correspondence of THE HERALDThe commissioners of Bear Lake county are looking after the interests of the county and are taking an interest in public improvements im-provements A now bridge across Bear river between Montpelier and Ovid is now in course of construction and the old bridge is a thing of the past The new bridge will be a credit to the county The contractors are Messrs Lowe Davies and Grinnett of Paris and the cost of construction will be about 1300 In meantime travelers by team to the county seat and settlements on the west side of the river must cross at Dingle Dell bridge unless they wish to take chances in fording the river and getting a good ducking The new bridge no doubt will be completed in about two weeks The oldest settlers in this valley say they never o before witnessed such a winter No snv nor blizzard and not very cold weather Two distinct euocrs OF EAnruQcAKn were felt here on two occasions The passenger trains going west are loaded daily with emigrants bound for Oregon Ore-gon Montana and Washington territory the passengers taking Horace Greeleys advice ad-vice going west to grow up with the country Nearly every day from twelve to seventeen passenger cars are on the trains loaded J and standing room is at a premium How long such a passenger traffic will keep up is a matter of conjecture BEAU LAKE COUNTY will have two terms of the district court this year The first term will open here on May 1 and the second term on July 15 The court calendar for this county will be clear after the July term From what your correspondent cor-respondent can learn there is a heavy criminal crim-inal calendar as well as several very important im-portant civil cases This county is looked upon as one of the most peacable in the territory The farmers are now making all arrangements i arrange-ments for spring work and in fact are plowing and sowing their grain on high I l land The chances are that water for irrigation I irri-gation purposes will be scarce Bear river is lower at present than ever before but no doubt the necessary steps will be takon to secure all the water in this valley to make hay withEd with-Ed Burgoyne has shipped all the surplus teams and men to Boise valley to work on tho ditch that he contracted for some time ego Ninetyfive teams and HO men and gjmen comprise tL party OREGON SHORT LINO rBBIGUT The freight trains on the Oregon Short Line railway do not do the business they did six weeks ago In fact five freight crews were pulled off the first of this month on account of the decrease in freight business MOXTPBLIBR Is GROWING fast A number of buildings are in course of erection Among the most prominent is George Sheeheys row of tenement houses I and Assessor and Collector Mills elegant residence William Vantessells restaurant is also an addition to the town and he does I a rushing business The county has erected a Jail for Montpelier precinct Although not very large it is probably big enough the majority the citizens are peaceable and law abiding and for that reason it will not be occupied very much GENERAL News NOTES John H Bagley has a law offl cohere He has a good practice and he is perfectly capable I capa-ble The postoffice is still in the upper town I The Tribune some time ago said that it was moved This is about as close as the sheet I usually gets The female relief society and I the primary association had a two days meeting on Saturday and Sunday They were well attended Excellent instruction was given The Sunday school children had a concert on Saturday evening last It was a very creditable affair The proceeds went to aid the Sunday school of Montpelier ward Rich Bros Woolley are receiving now an immense quanity of farming implements wagons and buggies Ei Burgoyne takes the lead in general gen-eral merchandise and he also sells and proposes pro-poses to sell his goods as cheap as any merchant mer-chant in Idaho Ed is no politician but was elected as commissioner for the Third district He did not qualify because he could not spare the time to attend to county affairsTUB TUB NEW HERALD CATCHES OS Tms HERALD is now the boss paper in the Rocky Mountain region and everybody speaks in the highest praise of the energy pluck and enterprise the company has exhibited ex-hibited It is a credit to Salt Lake city and to Utah territory and words of praise are spoken right and left in TUB HERALDS favor since it has put on its new dress It is a daisy Success to it Why even the children cry for TUB SALT Lisa DAILY + HBBALD in Idaho now |
