Show THEY WERE SAVED Five Victims of the Black Diamond Dia-mond Disaster Rescued AND JOY REIGNS I FIVE HOMES The Story or their Suffering and AnxIety While In Living Tomb The Faithful Faith-ful Rescuers fa Rscu r MT CARMBL Pa March 15Supreme joy reigns in the homes of five men tonight on account of their miraculous deliverance seemeil death from what last night certain mar TELL THB STORY Two of them Hall and Revels though suffering extremely from nervous exhaustion exhaus-tion gave to tho Associated Press tonight the first account of their experience These two men were engaged in driving new schutes in the breast of No8 south stspe of the mine about noon yesterday when they heard a terrific roar and the next minute they experienced a shock which caused Hall to exclaim My God Nick the stope has caved in 1 SAW HIM cRAWL OUT Revels descended to the gangway and twelve feet from him found their egress from cthe st5i cut oft by huge rocks He called to the miners who were working in No 7 and soon saw Rokus crawling from tae debris They both joined in shouts and then heard Shalski calling from No7 chamber for help He was pinioned by a large rock and urged his comrades to como to his rescue The second fall then occurred and no more sounds were heard and he was in all probability killed though the force of men are still working for his deliverance GROWING DESPERATE The five miners who were saved heard theirs rescuers stop work outside about 6 oclock last night and growing desperate endeavored nightland up the abandoned chamber and gain an exit but a mountain like boulder stood in their way Later however they heard sounds outside out-side of the works again add their hope grew EXCOURAQED BT SIGNALS They then signalled five times on the solid pillar and the rescuers returned twentynine signals and the wives and children and hundreds of friends at the mouth of the colliery knew the five men were safe At 12 oclock to day the do ivorance had been effected by driving a tunnel twentynine yards Hundred of tons of debris must be removed re-moved before the mine can be put in working work-ing order |
