Show BASEBALL A Couple of Games on the Diamond Dia-mond Field A lively game of baseball was played on Washington Square yesterday afternoon after-noon between the Sixteenth Ward club composed of R Tibbitts c S i Lore D A Hurt 1 b D Beeslev 2 b M Morris 3 b A Timpson ss B Solomon 11 W Nebeker c fl and J I Love r f and the Young American nine embracing D Spencer c J Platt p J Benton 1 br C Tucker 2 b E Foster 3 b R Hodges Hodge-s s J Skillicorn r f J Cham berlain c f F Parker 1 f The playing was spirited and showed some good ball handlers in both teams The score stood at the clese of the game l6 to 7 in favor of the Young Americans The following communication tells of a game played between the Stars of this city and the nine of Kaysville We the Star Base Ball Club left Salt Lake this morning Thursday May 7th 1885 at 9 oclock a m in a wagon for Kaysville to play the baseball nine of that place We had a very pleasant trip all the way up being greeted OH either side 6v young ladies waving their hats and aprons and throwmg kisses at the boys and on one occasion as we were passing along log house our secondbaseman Willie was looking In at the front door when he beheld be-held an aged lady who had just risen from an old arm chair waving her bonnet bon-net and handkerchief and throwing kisses at him in such a manner that we all thought she was completely mashed on him We arrived at Kays ville by 1230 p m where we were kindly welcomed by the captain Mr Talburt and their manager Mrs Joseph Jo-seph Robins and the people generally We at once partook of dinner and then proceeded in full uniform tothe ground I where we found a very large crowd of wagons and people forming a circle around the square We Were immediately immedi-ately called to play by our able and proved to be good umpire George Pugsley The score ran pretty high and was led by our active shortstop Del Beesley as tallied by W J Rid d the former catcher of the Stars who rode fifty miles in a wagon to see the Stars play and to see if his former position po-sition was filled He found to his great surprise that it was now held by Brig Ridd the most enterprising catcher the Stars ever had The score at the end I of the ninth inning stood 29 to 13 in favor of the Stars At the conclusion of the game we started leaving the crowd in the midst of yells and cheers at 5 oclock pm and arrived in Salt Lake City at 845 pm pretty tired and tiff from thende but m all other respects spects we were feeling quite well ONE OF THE STARS |
