Show ri A Perjured Juror t1 NEW YORK May 8 Harvey M Mun iiJ sell of 224 West Fiftysecond Street Ian I-an insurance brokerand the eleventh juror in the trial of Richard Short for i the attempted assassination of Captain 4 1 Phelan in ODonoyan Rossas office on j January 9th was arrested this afternoon i after-noon by a detective from the district attorneys office on an order 7ff issued by Judge Van Brunt who presided pre-sided over the trial charging Munsell with misdemeanor perjury and contempt i con-tempt of court It has been discovered t14 S by District Attorney Martine that on several days before the trialMnnsell was in consultation with Short in the I Toombsand that during the recess of the court on Wednesday when the trial was 1 pending he visited Rossa office and t had a consultation with Patrick Joyce ss Bail was fixed at 5000 Munsell will be indicted on Monday The district attorney r at-torney had his own detectives and Pinkertons men were watching watch-ing the jurors from the time they were impanelled neither party of watchers knowing that they had rivals in the case The warden and keeper of the Toombs as well as the prisoner r whom Munsell went to see and two I tenants in Rossas building are the 1 witnesses Each set of detectives made a similar report The district attorney is confident he can corivict Munsell Munsell was seen in the Toombs tonight 1 to-night He says he went to Rossas t office to get a better idea of the surroundings 1 l sur-roundings than the diagrams flf shown in the court gave He remained there about a minute and I spoke to no one while there He saw f i Short once in the Toombs when he I called to see Orrin Skinner the alleged swindler who had obtained money from t bun Skinner had promised to try and get some of Munsells backforhira and had asked him to visit Mrs Skinner r ir Skin-ner who was dying in Quincy Ill On this occasion he did not speak to Short i and got only such a poor view of him + that he did not recognize him when t Short took the witness chair Munsell i 1 claims that he was opposed to dynamite dyna-mite plans but that on the evidence r I produced on the trial he could only conscientiously jJ1 con-scientiously acquit the prisoner 1 t fill |
