Show Mail Complaints There is a vastdeal of complaint about mail matters which is steadily increasng The early and reliable delivery of the several editions of the HERALD is a matter which involves in-volves thousands of dollars a year to the HERALD Company and this journal has long endured without complaining in the hope that the difficulty would be remedied We cannot blame the postal authorities in this city but that there is gross carelessness and almost criminal incompetence on mail routes and in smaller postoffices there can be little doubt There is little doubt of this for the reason that complaints com-plaints are not confined to papers i but also to letters some of which never reach their destination It cannot be a matter of economy for persons would willingly pay more if they could be assured of the expedition expedi-tion and safety which should characterize char-acterize the delivery ef mails in this Territory Utah is no longer a pioneer country but has been long enough settled to make the regular and absolutely safe delivery of mails not only possible but quite an easy matter It is strange that persons should be retained in postoffices who are insulting to the people and who are also disgustingly incompetent and the strict honesty of some is seriously seri-ously questioned Yet complaints even though well founded are unheeded un-heeded This is the case not with regard to Salt Lake City but to very many places outside of it j and unless a remedy is effected there should be a united remonstrance remon-strance and a general petition for redress should be extended throughout through-out the Territory and forwarded to a place were it would do the most good So far as the HERALD is concerned the present bad mail system sys-tem is costing the proprietors of this journal a great deal of money in the loss of subscribers and the annoyance is something some-thing frightful to contemplate We desire our subscribers to understand that every possible exertion is made to have them get tleir papers regularly regu-larly and in time but when once the copies of this journal are confined con-fined to the tender mercies of Uncle I Sams postal servants in this Territory Terri-tory frpm past and present experience experi-ence we can only hope and pray that there may be a safe delivery I It is again asserted that these remarks re-marks are in no wise intended to refer to the offices in Salt Lake I City |
