Show TELEGRAPHIC Gress The Labor Congress Cleveland 24Most of the forenoon fore-noon was devoted to committee consultations consul-tations Messrs Gowher of New York Howard of Massachusetts Edmondaton of Washington Powers of Chicago and Fester of Ohio were appointed a com miuee on legislation lur the eneusng year Resolutions were adopted to take political politi-cal action against men and measures opposed op-posed lo trades unionism advising local plasterers unions to connect themselves with the national plasterers union and urging plasterers to organize localunions where none now exist recommending recom-mending the trades unions to study the questions of tenure of land requesting request-ing the workingmen to smoke only cigars manufactured by union men instructing the legislation committee to urge the passage by Congress of a bill for the protection of life and property at sea The platform of principles ratified was substantially tbe same as last year minus the tariff plank end with the addition of a paragraph csttinjj for the passage of employers liability laws The platform insists on the passage of federal and state laws for the incorporation of labor organizations favors compulsory education educa-tion of children calls for laws forbidding the employment of children under fourteen four-teen years of age demands uniform apprentice ap-prentice laws calls for the enforcement of the national eight hour law denounces convict labor and asks that the order or truck system of payment be prohibited by law favors making wages the first lien upon property demands a repeal of the so called conspiracy laws asks for a national bureau of labor statistics calls for the prevention of the importation of foreign laborers under contract and rec commends trades organizations to secure proper representation in all law making bodies The congress then adjourned to meet nest August in New York A banquet ban-quet and ball was given tonight by the Cleveland trades assembly in honor of the delegates to the Labor Congress |
