Show An Unmitigated Nuisance SALT LAKE CITY Oct 161885 I Editors Herald At the intersection of West Tern pie and Second South streets is located lo-cated a foundry and machine shop the proprietors of which have for many months past monopolized a large portion of the t sidewalk and street on the wtst side of their premises to the great annoyance and inconvenience of pedestrians and positive danger to all who pass along that frequented thoroughfare on horseback or in vehicles Not content with encumbering the sidewalk side-walk with castings moulds delap itated lire extinguishers huge boilers boil-ers and other machinery they have systematically dumped cinders and other refuse from their furnaces into the street until our once c can and neatlooking neighborhood now resembles a general rubbish yard As I do not either ride or drive a horse and am not therefore in anyway any-way liable to have my bones broken oy the animal taking freight ac the unsightly traps dumped in the road or on the sidewalk I do not notice it so much as some of my more unfortunate neighbors who use horses Another source of annoyance nnd one which the neighborho 3d regard I as even more serious than the above is the blower used in their foundry Now I maintain that any ordinarily ordinar-ily sensitive person once hearing the din made by it would unhesitatingly c unhesi-tatingly pronounce it an unmitigated unmiti-gated nuisance The roar fiom it shakes the buildings in that vicinity and drives the unfortuuate occupants > occu-pants to the verge of desperation There is no escape from the infernal dm go where you will m the house from cellar to garret You hear the same sound in every nook and corner cor-ner just as long as the blower is in operation Imagine a dozen steiill fire engines under a full head cl steam pumping just outside or your sittingroom window and you will have a faint conception of the roar and din created by the nuisance in question There aprobably is n ordinance to protect citizens from such annoyances annoy-ances as this and if so the proper officers should look to it If there is not one should certainly be passed at once and enforced too end not allowed to remain a dead letter on the recorders books The corner of Second South and West Temple streets is no place anyhow for such a shop Induce them to quit obstructing ob-structing the sidewalk and street and to stop their unearthly racket and a suffering community will tender ten-der yon their grateful thanks A SUFFEKPU |
