Show I11 THE OIL WAREHOUSE A correspondent who signs himself I him-self A Rustler for Rights hits the d City Council and those whose duty it is to enforce the ordinances a i rather severe blow in his communication communi-cation that is published elsewhere in this issue There exists a doubt as to whether the Oil Companys storehouse t 4 store-house ia really the nuisance or the danger depot that the people residing in that neighborhood assert it to be Y Oil warehouses are by no means the I Y s worst evils in a city At 1 the same time the people have declared this one a 4 i nuisance and proclaimed it an enemy t f to their of mind emy peace They a protested against its erection and succeeded in inducing the Council r to pass an ordinance prohibiting 1 just such depots except under certain t cer-tain conditions Those conditions J t do not exist or have not been complied I com-plied with in this case the Oil com a r 1 pany defying both public sentiment and the city ordinances 1 The warehouse I s ware-house exists contrary to municipal 1 1 law and whether or not it is dangerous I r dan-gerous or a nuisance otherwise the r city authorities owe it to themselves and the community to enforce the t ordinances If this cannot be done 1 the law had better be striken from i the books for no statute whatever is infinitely preferable to a Tain act 1 which only exists as something by A t which the constituted authority can c t be mocked and derided 7 ti t z |
